RN Part Time – Las Cruces Recovery Center
About the Job
The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing nursing care to patients, supervising care and treatment of patient care provided by LPNs, CNAs and other staff on the assigned unit and shift. The RN develops, implements, and evaluates individualized plans of care for each client, assesses and re‑assesses patient status, communicates appropriate information with the interdisciplinary team, and reports client concerns or changes in condition to the supervisor and/or physician in a timely manner.
Roles and Responsibilities- Provides and coordinates care by assessing physical and behavioral health needs, implements nursing care plans, maintains medical records, and educates clients and families about health conditions while ensuring client safety.
- Assesses client status on an ongoing basis and documents pertinent information.
- Ensures nursing treatment plans are specific to assessed needs and initial plans are completed upon admission.
- Accurately takes physician’s orders (verbal or telephone), transcribes and reviews them, and ensures legibility.
- Administers medications per ordered notes, documents counts of controlled substances, adjusts medications under provider supervision, and monitors lab results.
- Notifies physician of significant changes in status such as detox difficulties, medical emergencies, or changes in medication response.
- Supervises self‑administration of medications using dual identification, documenting and reporting effects of scheduled and PRN medications.
- Maintains accountability for medication administration, recording, control, and security, including narcotics.
- Completes admission and discharge processes efficiently and accurately as directed.
- Engages with the treatment team—nurses, therapists, program managers, physician—regarding client care.
- Attends and participates in unit activities such as therapy groups, family meetings, staffing and unit meetings.
- Provides client, family, and co‑worker education on medication usage, side effects, patient rights, and other topics for optimal care.
- Monitors client acuity, census, staffing needs, and arranges for coverage as needed, following guidelines.
- Ensures thorough, accurate documentation for all clients on each shift, and completes daily client assignment sheets.
- Provides a detailed report to incoming staff, supervisors, and physician.
- Provides coverage in emergency services as needed.
- Graduation from an approved/accredited school of nursing.
- One or more years of nursing experience in the clinical area of service provided by the facility (preferred).
- Experience in a behavioral health/psychiatric/addiction recovery environment (preferred).
- Valid current RN license from the state or from a compact state, where applicable.
- Certified in Psychiatric Nursing (preferred).
