The Operating Room Circulator Nurse provides comprehensive perioperative nursing care across a broad range of surgical specialties within a Level III Trauma facility. This role is responsible for coordinating and managing patient care throughout the intraoperative phase, ensuring patient safety, maintaining regulatory compliance, and facilitating efficient surgical workflow. The Circulator Nurse supports a diverse caseload that includes General Surgery, Orthopedics, Gynecology (GYN), Robotics, Urology, Hand Surgery, Podiatry, and other surgical specialties as needed.

Responsibilities include patient assessment and advocacy, surgical case preparation, equipment and supply management, documentation, specimen handling, medication administration, and coordination of multidisciplinary team activities.

Due to the variety and complexity of surgical services provided, the role requires exceptional adaptability, strong clinical judgment, and extensive knowledge of diverse surgical procedures, techniques, instrumentation, and technology. The Circulator Nurse must effectively prioritize competing demands, anticipate procedural needs, and respond efficiently to changing patient conditions and surgical case requirements.

The position collaborates closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, first assistants, nursing colleagues, and ancillary support staff to promote seamless surgical care delivery, maintain a safe operative environment, and achieve optimal patient outcomes. The Circulator Nurse serves as the patient’s advocate throughout the surgical experience, ensuring adherence to evidence-based practices, sterile technique standards, and organizational policies while supporting high-quality, patient-centered care.
