Project description: The Fish, Wildlife, and Conservation Ecology Department at New Mexico State University is recruiting a long-term research associate to oversee a project focused on the development and implementation of YY Brown Trout for suppression of non-native Brown Trout in New Mexico. The research associate will work closely with Dr. Klein (NMSU), the New Mexico Department of Wildlife, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service investigating the use of estradiol to create Brown Trout brood stock and stock‑able Myy (Male fish with two Y chromosomes) progeny.

The incumbent will also be expected to collect pre-treatment data on sympatric Brown Trout - Onchorhynchus spp. (Rio Grande Cutthroat Trout, Gila Trout) populations and publish peer‑reviewed articles based on pre-existing data and data collected in the field. The research associate will be housed in the Fish, Wildlife, and Conservation Ecology Department  selected candidate will join a vibrant and productive community of graduate students, post‑docs, and faculty specializing in applied fish and wildlife ecology.

Qualifications: A M.S. or Ph.D. in fisheries biology, ecology, conservation ecology, or related fields is required. Experience in stream surveys and remote fieldwork are required. Quantitative skills, a familiarity with conservation genetics, and a record of publishing in peer‑reviewed literature are preferred. The ideal candidate will be detail‑oriented, capable of working on large, collaborative projects, and have an interest in applied fisheries management.

Salary and benefits: Annual salary will be $60,000 to $65,000, depending on experience (M.S. vs. Ph.D.). A competitive benefits package will also be provided. Funding for the project is state‑derived and anticipated for at least 3 years.
