Position Details

Position Title: Mesonet Weather Station Technician

Location: Las Cruces, NM

Salary: $21.11 per hour

Schedule: Standard (Mon‑Fri, 8‑5) with occasional weekend and evening travel

The New Mexico Climate Center requires a Technician to assist in maintaining high‑quality weather stations within the Zia Met state‑wide network. Responsibilities include maintenance and data collection for a group of Zia Met weather station towers across New Mexico, reporting to the Zia Met Director, and performing additional related duties as assigned.

Required

Education and Experience:

Associate’s Degree plus 2 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree.

• Familiarity with electronics and wiring
• Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
• Capacity to work independently and as part of a team
• Willingness to travel to various locations within New Mexico
• Ability to operate power equipment used to maintain site vegetation
• Effective communication skills

Must have a valid Driver’s License and be able to travel around New Mexico.

Work involves exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals, biohazardous materials, dust, fumes, loud noises, and other potentially dangerous circumstances. Physical activity constitutes the primary component of the job (more than 70%). Tasks may require heavy lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing, or pulling objects.
