Excavator Operator
The Excavator Operator is a skilled professional who operates heavy machinery, primarily excavators, to move earth, dig trenches, and perform other excavation tasks on construction sites. They are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the equipment, ensuring projects are completed to specifications and within safety guidelines.
Primary duties include maneuvering excavators with hydraulic and manual controls to dig, move, and load materials like soil, rock, and debris; interpreting construction plans and blueprints to understand project requirements and ensure accurate excavation; conducting pre-start checks, performing basic maintenance tasks, and reporting any malfunctions or defects; communicating and collaborating with site supervisors, other operators, and construction crews to ensure smooth workflow and safety;
adhering to safety regulations and procedures, maintaining a safe work environment, and identifying potential hazards; loading excavated materials onto trucks, and unloading equipment and materials as needed; clearing construction sites, preparing the ground for construction, and potentially assisting with other tasks as required; and performing other duties as assigned.
Requirements include being 18 years of age or older, holding a high school diploma or equivalent, having proven experience in operating excavators and potentially other heavy machinery like bulldozers or backhoes, possessing a basic understanding of mechanical systems and the ability to troubleshoot minor equipment issues, committing to safety and having a thorough understanding of safety regulations, being able to complete work tasks under various adverse weather conditions including heat above 100 degrees, cold, and rain, passing a pre-employment drug test, and requiring extensive travel and living at or near job sites.
