Education Specialist – Individual Placement (Ameri Corps)
We are recruiting 5 Corps members in a talent development program focused on conservation service projects on public lands. The program supports young adults 18‑25 from New Mexico in June–October 2026. See the key details below.

• End Date: 10/30/26
• AA Classification: 675 Hours

As part of the Conservation Legacy and an Ameri Corps program, the Individual Placement Program engages youth, young adults, and veterans in conservation service projects on public lands across New Mexico and western Texas.

• BLM Projects:
  • Assist in monitoring wilderness, maintaining recreation sites, and other conservation related projects.
  • Support outreach, public land education, visitor services, and monitoring of public land sites.
  • Participate in data collection, field surveying, and Wilderness Study Area monitoring as needed.
• Conservation Education & Stewardship:
  • Assist YCC leads in classroom visits and field trips, preparing materials, presenting lesson plans, and supporting youth engagement.
  • Serve as a mentor for the PLIA Whiptail Trails Program and Girls Camp, leading activities and building environmental literacy.
  • Represent the community by sharing personal experiences and encouraging future stewardship pathways.
• Logistics & Coordination:
  • Coordinate scheduling and readiness for camps/field trips (materials staging, equipment checks, teacher/parent coordination).
  • Support on‑site setup and breakdown, activity flow, and supply management.
  • Maintain data collection and basic records (inventories, trip checklists, participation counts).
  • Participate in planning meetings with public land partners, teachers, and parents.
• Assist in training and development including First Aid, Leave No Trace, Certified Interpretive Guide, Mental Health First Aid, and Defensive Driving.

The role involves driving on uneven terrain, hiking off trail, exposure to rattlesnakes, insects, extreme heat, and rain. Possible camping in inclement weather, lifting up to 50 lbs, and managing youth in outdoor settings. Safety measures include PPE, hydration plans, staff supervision, and established procedures.

• U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident.
• Aged 18‑25 and a New Mexico resident at time of application.
• High school diploma or equivalency, or commitment to obtain by program end.
• Availability from June to October 2026.
• Completion of National Service Criminal History Check.

• Team-oriented and engaged in community service.
• Interest in working with young people.

• Must sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, and lift 25 lbs routinely.
• Ability to hike and navigate rough terrain.
• Reasonable accommodations available.

• Work effectively as a member of a team under challenging conditions.
• Contribute to a safe learning environment and avoid harassment.
• Complete all program components including projects, education, training, and national service requirements.
• Communicate ideas and concerns directly to supervisors, colleagues, and the organization.
• Represent Conservation Corps New Mexico, BLM, PLIA, and Ameri Corps to the public and partners.
• Maintain flexibility and adaptability to fluid work environments.

• Communicate danger and personal distress effectively up to 50 meters.
• Recognize hazards and follow direction to manage them.
• Stay alert and focused for several hours while traveling and working.
• Maintain proper medication dosage if required.

A drug‑free workplace; alcohol and drugs are prohibited while participating in Ameri Corps and program activities or on organization property.
