Position Summary
The Sr. Tax Accountant is responsible for assisting the VP of Tax, Sr. Tax Manager, and other Finance/Accounting personnel with tax compliance, reporting, and independent contractor tax withholding on a state, federal and international level in accordance with prescribed company policies, procedures, programs, and practices.
Responsibilities- Gather data and file various tax returns monthly, quarterly and annually, ensuring all appropriate adjustments and exemptions are claimed and the company’s tax liability is accurately determined.
- Review transactional data, reconcile workbooks computations, and prepare and record adjusting journal entries related to indirect tax accruals on a monthly basis.
- Assist with registration and payment of various taxes including ticket, sales/use, VAT, athlete/entertainer, and contractor withholding tax; complete and collect exemption and resale certificates.
- Assist with tax calculations in purse and payment files for athlete, contractor, and officials’ payment deductions and tax withholding requirements for domestic and international events.
- Prepare federal and state tax upload files for 1099 and 1042-s reporting and reconcile EFTPS throughout the year.
- Respond to accounts payable and athlete queries regarding W9 and W8 questions, and respond to email queries from fighters or their representatives in a timely manner.
- Respond to tax notices from local and federal tax agencies, manage outside tax consultants as needed, and assist with tax budget amounts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or EA is a plus.
- 3+ years of accounting experience preferred.
- Moderate/Advanced Microsoft Office experience, emphasizing Excel skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments according to due dates and supervisors’ requests.
- Proficiency in tax research, problem solving, and analytical analysis.
- Ability to analyze, interpret, and communicate tax-related information to accounting/finance and other departments.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain discretion with confidential information.
- Competency with Microsoft Word and Outlook; willing to learn other basic computer programs.
- Experience filing sales/use returns and withholding tax on non-residents is a plus.
- Experience with JDE, SAP S/4
HANA, and SOVOS is a plus.
