Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our growing construction organization. This position will play a critical role in managing accounting operations, financial reporting, job cost accounting, AIA billing, and month-end close activities. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in construction accounting, including experience with WIP schedules, project costing, ERP systems, and financial analysis. This role will work closely with project managers and leadership to ensure financial accuracy and support informed business decisions.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
- Maintain accurate job cost accounting records and monitor project budgets, costs, and profitability.
- Prepare and review Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and project profitability reports.
- Process and manage AIA billing
, progress billings, change orders, retainage tracking, and lien release documentation. - Reconcile general ledger accounts, bank accounts, credit cards, and intercompany transactions.
- Oversee and support accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial planning.
- Prepare audit schedules and support external audits, tax filings, and compliance reporting.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and internal controls.
- Collaborate with project managers to review job performance, contract status, billing, and cost projections.
- Generate financial and operational reports utilizing ERP systems and other reporting tools.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and increased efficiencies across accounting functions.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5+ years of accounting experience within the construction industry required.
- Strong experience with AIA billing, job costing, WIP reporting, retainage accounting, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial reporting.
- Experience using construction-focused ERP systems such as Sage 100 Contractor, Sage Intacct, Viewpoint Vista, Foundation, CMiC, Acumatica, or similar platforms.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial statement preparation.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- CPA designation is a plus but not required.

- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within the construction industry.
- Strong background in job costing, project accounting, and WIP schedule management.
- Experience supporting project managers with budget tracking and cost analysis.
- Proven ability to prepare monthly financial statements and manage close processes.
- Experience working with construction accounting software and ERP systems.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- CPA designation a plus.
