TELUS International is looking for a Payroll Specialist IV to join our U.S Payroll team!

The Payroll Specialist IV operates as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), focusing on strategic improvements, complex payroll compliance, system optimization, and assisting with oversight the Payroll Team. This position assists in the efficient operation of processing payroll. Performs duties related to payroll functions, including timely entering of payroll and payroll-related data in Workday, processes timely and accurate payrolls, compiles payroll statistics, completes payroll reporting requests, and maintains payroll control records, in accordance with Federal, State, and local laws.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Helps support a team of Payroll Analysts processing bi-weekly multi-state payroll for +12,000 team members.
  • Assists with providing training, guidance, and mentorship to new hires and junior Payroll Analysts.
  • Leads special payroll-related projects, such as system or process changes, company mergers, acquisitions, or restructuring efforts.
  • Assists with complex multi-jurisdictional, international, or expat payrolls and ensure compliance across various country-specific regulations.
  • Handles specialized payroll tasks, including escheatment, tax registrations and notices, year-end balancing, and garnishments.
  • Resolves complex, high-level discrepancies, acting as a second-level support for issues that routine analysts cannot resolve.
  • Supports the end-to-end payroll processing for large or complex groups.
  • Ensure timely and legislative-compliant payroll payments and processes.
  • Acts as the primary point of contact for complex, non-routine payroll queries, researching discrepancies and resolving them.
  • Accurately processes payroll and meet all deadlines.
  • Creates EIB files and submit them for upload into the Workday system.
  • Conducts audits of payroll data and balance file totals to payroll totals.
  • Saves all supporting documentation and balancing reports to the shared drive.
  • Prepares, processes, and track wage garnishments and child support orders.
  • Reviews and processes of all payroll-related tickets in a timely manner while ensuring appropriate backup documentation, accuracy, and obtaining necessary approvals as required.
  • Maintains payroll operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes to leadership.
  • Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Reviews and processes any authorized employment verification requests within 48 business hours of receipt.
  • Reviews benefits premium deductions on file feeds prior to submission of payroll.
  • Verifies that payroll benefits deduction amounts for each pay period are accurately withheld from the employee's paycheck.
  • Liaise with auditors and manages payroll tax audits.
  • Resolves issues and answers payroll-related questions and escalations.
  • Ensures payroll best practices and procedures are adhered to and documented.
  • Follows internal policies and act in accordance with relevant laws.
  • Prepares reports and maintains accurate records.
  • Partners with IT support and oversees payroll system and timekeeping upgrades/configurations.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources and Finance teams.
  • Partners with payroll vendor on tax jurisdiction setups/changes, banking changes, configuration changes, etc.
  • Other duties as requested by management.
  • 5+ years of multi-state payroll experience.
  • +2 years of proven mentorship, training, or leadership experience.
  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Human Resources or related field.
  • Strong understanding of payroll and compliance.
  • Organizational and leadership skills.
  • Strong understanding of multi-location/state/country payroll and taxes.
  • Strong understanding of current payroll procedures and related laws.
  • Attention to detail and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise considerable discretion and judgment in handling the highest level of confidential information.
  • Understanding of wage attachments such as garnishments, child support, levies, etc.
  • Proactive, flexible, assertive, with a creative approach to problem solving.
  • FPC or CPP certification preferred.
  • Experience with Workday and ticketing/case software.
  • Moderate to advanced Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets skills.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of a Contact/Call Center work environment.

Hourly Pay - $20.00–$25.00/hour
