Job Summary

The Construction Manager manages and oversees the performance and activities of construction crews, ensuring work is performed safely, accurately, and on time. The role inspects ongoing work, ensures adherence to state and local codes, arranges for necessary equipment, and keeps construction project costs at or under budget.

Job Responsibilities
  • Manage and coordinate the activities of assigned construction crews
  • Continuously evaluate and inform each direct report’s performance and improve their skills to advance the team
  • Enforce company policies and procedures
  • Administer appropriate corrective disciplinary actions and prepare supporting documentation for employee performance or behavioral issues
  • Train Foremen
  • Foremen report to Construction Manager on assigned jobs
  • Work with the Project Manager to coordinate, schedule, and order materials
  • Coordinate with customer on site coordination and planning
  • Order material for assigned job as necessary
  • Work with Admin on crew timesheets, documents for assigned jobs, and job setups
  • Approve invoices
  • Ensure projects are completed within budget and on schedule
  • Track milestones and deliverables throughout the project life cycle
  • Approve and/or fill out daily production reports, mark up maps, track work hours, and complete As‑Builts and Closeout packages
  • Perform interviews and manage hiring for field crews
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Required

Skills & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Proven ability to manage, train, and oversee the performance and activities of construction crews, ensuring safe, accurate, and timely work
  • Proficiency in aerial/underground construction
  • Capability to read and interpret building plans, blueprints, and specifications
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with effective listening
  • Professional demeanor and interpersonal skills; ability to work well with diverse personalities and in a team environment
  • Intermediate or advanced knowledge of computer equipment and related software (Excel, Word, scheduling software, HCSS Heavy Bid, etc.)
  • Ability to perform statistical analysis, calculations, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret RFPs, trade journals, contracts, financial reports, job documents, manuals, safety rules, and training materials
  • Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, employees, regulatory agencies, or members of the community
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, employees, customers, and public groups
  • Problem‑solving skills: define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form and manage multiple variables
  • Excellent attention to detail with an emphasis on quality
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Work both indoors and outdoors, with potential exposure to inclement weather
  • Maintain visual and audible contact with crew and other personnel to ensure safe coordination
  • Work around heavy equipment and machinery
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Perform extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, and twisting
  • Stand, walk, sit, or occupy other physically demanding positions for long periods
  • Wear safety boots, safety glasses, hard hat, and applicable safety gear at all times

A Construction Manager I, II, or III title differentiation lies in the experience and/or skill level of the individual as well as the size and number of projects managed and span of control.
