WSP is currently initiating a search for a Construction Manager for our Power Constructors, Inc. (PCI) sector in our Las Vegas, Nevada office. This position is primarily field-based, working in various locations throughout the client’s service territory in the Las Vegas area. The Construction Manager will work with the Project Management team and be a part of a growing organization committed to meeting client objectives and solving challenges.

Opportunity

Act as the Owner’s representative on project areas, overseeing all aspects of transmission facilities construction, including interconnect, status reporting, owner-purchased material, safety monitoring, startup and commissioning, and project closeout. The role is responsible for overall project-area management, ensuring compliance with budget, schedule, and quality goals. The Construction Manager coordinates and reports on construction work performed by contractors and vendors at the project site.

The position may require extensive travel.

Your Impact
  • Supports WSP’s Project Quality Program (PQP).
  • Reviews specifications and ensures contractors follow them.
  • Implements and monitors quality control programs.
  • Works with owner and contractor reps to address delays, weather, or emergencies.
  • Leads WSP’s field services team and serves as primary interface with the client.
  • Ensures site personnel follow safety processes.
  • Ensures compliance with environmental regulations, OSHA, project quality plan, and other applicable regulations.
  • Facilitates team familiarity with contract terms and project staff.
  • Builds, leads, and manages an internal workforce and project team.
  • Investigates damage, accidents, or delays to confirm proper procedures.
  • Stewards contractors and site personnel on quality methods, safety practices, and schedule delivery.
  • Serves as primary project leader or has management oversight.
  • Administers contracts and negotiates revisions with consultants, inspectors, testing services, clients, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Monitors contractor implementation of the material management plan.
  • Prepares or collaborates on budget estimates and cost-tracking reports.
  • Initiates, mediates, and stewards the change-management process.
  • Ensures all submittals and CC receipts meet deadlines.
  • Works with project leadership to deliver the project in logical steps and keep it on schedule.
  • Assists owner in identifying and obtaining necessary permits and licenses.
  • Serves as mediator between owner and contractor(s) to promote harmonious interaction.
  • Confer with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, and design professionals to resolve work procedures, complaints, and construction problems.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management or a related discipline, or equivalent proven experience.
  • Minimum of 10+ years in transmission operations, substation operations, construction, engineering, or equivalent education.
  • Detailed knowledge and proven record of successful transmission construction work, foundation installation, structure assembly, wire stringing and sagging, and all aspects of transmission facilities. Substation construction experience is preferred but not required.
  • Experience developing, revising, and maintaining construction schedules and detailed construction sequence documents.
  • Experience verifying construction progress, change orders, and schedule management.
  • Ability to review and respond to critical project issues.
  • Experience in outage planning and coordination for project-related lines or equipment.
  • Skill to read drawings, identify bill of materials, and communicate technical information.
  • Strong communication skills, maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritize and reprioritize multiple tasks to maintain schedules.
  • Experience coordinating pre-bid, pre-construction, and customer-related meetings.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Proficiency in reading plans and specifications and comparing with engineering standards.
  • Verbal and written communication skills at all organizational levels.
  • Preparation of detailed reports for management.
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office, MS Project, and Primavera P6.
