Terra Contracting, Inc. is a rapidly growing utility contractor specializing in underground utility installation, telecommunications infrastructure, gas distribution, power infrastructure, and utility restoration services. As part of our continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Underground Utility Construction Superintendent to lead field operations and help drive successful project execution across our utility construction division.

Position OverviewThe Underground Utility Construction Superintendent is responsible for overseeing daily field operations on underground utility construction projects involving fiber optic, gas, power, excavation, trenching, and utility infrastructure work.
This position requires strong leadership, operational expertise, and a commitment to safety, quality, and production. The Superintendent will coordinate crews, equipment, subcontractors, and project resources while working closely with Project Managers, Operational Support personnel, Foremen, and clients to ensure successful project delivery.
Candidates must have experience managing underground utility construction operations and active field crews. Experience limited to commercial building, residential construction, or vertical construction environments may not be sufficient for this role.
What You’ll Be Doing- Lead and supervise underground utility construction crews in the field.
- Oversee excavation, trenching, utility installation, restoration, and related construction activities.
- Drive production, safety, and quality standards across multiple projects and crews.
- Coordinate manpower, equipment, subcontractors, materials, and project resources.
- Ensure projects remain on schedule and within budget.
- Serve as the primary point of contact between field operations, subcontractors, project management, and company leadership.
- Conduct quality control inspections and ensure compliance with project specifications.
- Monitor project performance, production goals, schedules, and field operations.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and customer requirements.
- Conduct site visits, safety meetings, and production reviews.
- Mentor Foremen and field personnel while supporting workforce development.
- Troubleshoot field challenges and drive solutions that keep projects moving forward.
- Minimum 7 years of construction experience.
- Minimum 5 years of leadership or supervisory experience managing field crews.
- Previous experience as a Foreman, General Foreman, Superintendent, or similar leadership role.
- Strong experience in underground utility construction, excavation, and trenching operations.
- Experience with utility infrastructure projects involving fiber optics, telecommunications, gas, power, or civil utility construction.
- Proven ability to manage multiple crews, projects, and priorities simultaneously.
- Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and make decisions that impact project success.
- Strong understanding of construction software, project management systems, and field reporting tools.
- OSHA 30 Certification preferred.
