Job Description
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Safety Manager to join our Construction Management team for our Power Constructors, Inc. (PCI) sector in the Las Vegas, Nevada office. This field‑based position involves working in various field offices across Nevada, with about half of the time spent in the field office and the other half on site at transmission line, substation, and telecommunications locations.
OpportunityOversees field project safety planning and execution for large‑scale electric utility construction projects. Supports WSP scope, resolves high‑impact field safety issues, aligns with client expectations, monitors contract health and safety requirements, and tracks performance objectives. Leverages expertise in electric utility construction methods, regulatory compliance, and contract terms to facilitate monitoring and reporting. Supports development of long‑term project safety strategies, promotes innovation, and champions risk mitigation to foster a committed project safety culture.
YourImpact
- Lead field execution of WSP’s safety management scope for the Greenlink Nevada Program.
- Coordinate technical and operational aspects of safety, ensuring alignment with contract scope and regulatory standards.
- Serve as the WSP field safety liaison between NV Energy, contractors, consultants, and agency representatives.
- Oversee implementation of construction safety strategies and promote a culture of safety excellence.
- Participate in executive‑level client briefings, board meetings, and progress reporting forums.
- Evaluate contractor safety performance and participate in performance reviews and closeout assessments.
- Contribute to innovation initiatives by promoting new tools, technologies, and process improvements.
- Communicate known job site hazards to WSP employees, subcontractors, construction contractors, and NV Energy.
- Develop, maintain, and execute the project safety management plan and other safety related execution plans.
- Develop, maintain, and execute WSP’s Site‑Specific Safety Plan(s) for the Program.
- Review all contractor SSSPs and work plans to ensure compliance with NV Energy Safety Requirements and applicable laws/regulations.
- Identify and provide contact information for local medical, fire, and law enforcement agencies nearest the project site.
- Review contract safety and health requirements with contractors and subcontractors; address PPE, working hours, special work permits, and procedures.
- Inform subcontractors of the emergency response plan requirements relevant to the project site.
- Participate in daily tailboard meetings and other project meetings as required.
- Perform thorough safety audits, report discrepancies or deficiencies; share corrective actions with WSP Management and company.
- Observe and report unsafe work activities to WSP Management and NV Energy safety representative on a defined cadence.
- Facilitate implementation and processing of NV Energy 1st Application reporting on the program (field engagement, job observation, safety meetings, incidents, etc.).
- Review construction contractor incident reports and root cause analyses.
- Process WSP and NV Energy incident reports and root cause analysis.
- Maintain records to demonstrate program compliance on the POWER
360 software program and 1st Application. Files include contractor safety training logs, JHAs, tailboards, incident reports, etc. - Verify new WSP employees and project personnel complete project EHS orientation training before work; maintain roster and issuance of hard hat stickers.
- Provide technical input into employee and subcontractor accident, injury, and property damage/loss investigations for the corporate safety department.
- Ensure WSP follows NV Energy’s incident and accident reporting procedures and WSP company procedures per WSP’s Corporate Safety Plan.
- Generate monthly program safety statistic reports.
- Bachelor’s degree in safety management or a closely related discipline, or demonstrated proven equivalent experience.
- OSHA 30‑hour certification or equivalent health and safety training.
- 10+ years of experience as a safety manager on large complex electrical infrastructure projects.
