This position is a flex position. Candidates will be hired in at a level I, with a starting salary of $34.70 hourly. After a 12-month period, the selected candidate will be evaluated to determine if they meet the criteria to flex to a level II, with a starting salary of $38.22 hourly.
The ideal Inspector I candidate combines construction inspection experience with a strong commitment to protecting critical infrastructure; understands that the role extends beyond construction compliance and focuses on preventing damage to transmission pipelines, fiber optic systems, telemetry facilities, and cathodic protection equipment through utility locating, right-of-way inspections, encroachment management, field oversight, and contractor coordination.
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong project coordination skills and knowledge of Nevada's Excavation and Demolition Safety Law (NRS 455); and coordinates utility locating activities, pre-construction meetings, permit requirements, and excavation safety measures to ensure compliance, prevent third-party damage, and protect SNWA assets. Working collaboratively with contractors, developers, engineers, utility owners, and field personnel, the ideal candidate promotes safe excavation practices and helps maintain the reliability of the regional water transmission system.
The ideal candidate is proactive in identifying utility conflicts, facilitating stakeholder communication, and developing practical solutions to protect facilities and keep projects on schedule; and possesses strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently in the field while serving as a trusted representative for excavation safety, utility conflict resolution, facility protection, and the long-term reliability of critical SNWA infrastructure.
INTRODUCTION:

The successful candidate may be required to pass a job-related physical evaluation.
** GENERAL PURPOSE
** Under general supervision, performs detailed inspections of multi-disciplined public works, waterworks and utility construction projects; integrates plans, details and specifications to ensure construction and contract compliance; prepares project inspection reports; assists in the change order process; monitors and inspects construction activities within rights-of-way to ensure that transmission lines, fiber optic and telemetry cable, cathodic protection equipment and other structures are not damaged;
meets with contractors to determine encroachment types and specifications and to ensure permits are obtained; and performs related duties as assigned.
