Interior Designer III
We are looking for an experienced Interior Designer to support design and documentation at the Interior Designer III level. This role will assume individual responsibility for producing portions of design and documentation and may direct junior staff in those assigned areas.
Essential Functions- AIA – Interior Designer Level III (8+ years’ experience). Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design and eight or more years of related experience. Certification as a licensed professional is preferred but not required.
- Participates in the conceptual design and provides full support through the entire project. Liaises with Project Manager, Architects and consultants. Develops and represents lead technical viewpoint on projects. Coordinates with Director and Department Head on technical solutions and product strategies.
- Demonstrate knowledge of conceptual, schematic, design development, construction documentation and construction administration phases on assigned projects.
- Maintain frequent communication with the JCJ team to sustain proper information flow.
- Participate in design, coordination, and client meetings both virtual and in-person; lead certain meetings when necessary.
- Prepare meeting notes using standard JCJ formats and communicate written findings effectively.
- Check own work and intervene in junior staff work when requested; formulate work and scheduling strategies with the team and adhere to project schedules.
- Adhere to JCJ conventions for digital file keeping and promote these practices.
- Coordinate work with internal JCJ project team and sub‑consultants.
- Deliver client presentations physically or virtually and lead selected portions.
- Refine a portfolio in one market sector and demonstrate thorough knowledge of time management across multiple projects.
- Show creativity and adaptive design solutions for a variety of building types.
- Integrate interior design with architecture to create a unified statement.
- Apply knowledge of construction methods and coordinate with engineering disciplines.
- Understand conventions of space planning, clearances, human scale, ergonomics, and 3‑D implications.
- Research manufacturers and select materials, colors and finishes while coordinating with senior leadership and maintaining accurate drawings.
- Support business development with visual slide decks, finish boards and collateral.
- Produce documentation from concept through construction documents, create detail drawings for items such as millwork, furniture, tile and stonework.
- Create finish lists, location plans and elevations and adhere to technical best practices.
- Perform site observation, take notes and coordinate with the Project Architect.
- Accurately calculate square footage, furniture counts, material quantity take‑offs and embed them in budgets.
- Understand building, ADA and life/fire safety codes and interpret applicable local, federal and state regulations.
- Oversee resource materials, develop FF&E specifications, and prepare bid tabulations.
- Coordinate with 3rd‑party FF&E procurement, provide financial recommendations and manage costs.
- Participate in value‑engineering exercises, respond to RFIs and coordinate construction documentation review.
- Perform construction administration tasks including shop drawing review and Prorate.
- Take on special projects and duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in design or equivalent work experience.
- 8+ years’ experience in interior design, design management and services.
- 4+ years of creating interior design solutions.
- NCIDQ Professional Registration is preferred but not required.
- Advanced computer and information management skills (AutoCAD, Revit).
