Computer Aided Design Technician

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Electrical CAD Technician to support its Operations team on large-scale commercial electrical construction projects. This role works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and field teams to develop and maintain construction drawings that support successful project execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, revise, and maintain electrical construction drawings using AutoCAD and other drafting software.
• Develop installation, layout, and coordination drawings that support field operations throughout the construction lifecycle.
• Partner with Project Managers, Superintendents, Engineers, and field personnel to incorporate design revisions and resolve constructability issues.
• Interpret electrical plans, specifications, and contract documents to produce accurate construction drawings.
• Coordinate drawing updates based on RFIs, ASIs, change orders, and field conditions.
• Assist with equipment layouts, conduit routing, electrical room layouts, and installation details.
• Maintain drawing organization and document control throughout each project.
• Coordinate with BIM/VDC teams when applicable to ensure drawing accuracy and project alignment.
• Ensure all drawings comply with company drafting standards and project requirements.
• Support multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Drafting, CAD Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
• 2+ years of drafting experience within electrical construction.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD required.
• Experience reading electrical construction drawings and specifications.
• Strong understanding of commercial electrical systems and construction methods.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Revit, Navisworks, or Bluebeam.
• Previous experience supporting commercial electrical contractors.
• Familiarity with BIM coordination and clash detection.
• Experience supporting active construction projects rather than design-only environments.
