Overview
The University Of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) invites applications for Assistant Professor-in-Residence (FIR) positions in the Department of Mathematical Sciences. The successful candidate(s) will teach multiple math/stat courses, perform standard teaching duties, and may provide service to students and the department. Summers typically have no duties, with potential opportunities for additional teaching for compensation. Based on UNLV Bylaws, FIRs may have the opportunity for promotion to Associate and Full Faculty in Residence.
Roleof the Position
The Department of Mathematical Sciences is looking to fill one or more Non-Tenure-Track Assistant Professor-in-Residence (FIR) positions, commencing Fall 2026. The successful candidate(s) are expected to teach effectively four classes of math/stat in each fall and spring semester. These four classes typically include courses such as MATH 120, 124, 126, 127, 128, 132, and STAT 152. FIRs are required to perform all standard teaching duties, including holding regularly scheduled office hours and providing mid-semester grades and assessment data for the classes taught.
The successful candidate(s) are encouraged to provide service to students and the Department. There are no duties during summers (approximately May 15 – August 15), but there is often an opportunity to teach for additional compensation.

This position requires a Ph.D. in the Mathematical Sciences (or a closely related field) from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.
Preferred QualificationsPreference will be given to applicants who have at least two years of college-level teaching experience with a record of successful teaching in lower-division mathematical courses. Some research experience is also preferred.
