The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Associate or Full Professor Imaging Research, Brain Health, Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine [R0146749]
ROLE of the POSITION
The Department of Brain Health in the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV is accepting applications for an accomplished imaging researcher at the rank of Associate or Full Professor (tenured). The successful applicant will perform leading edge imaging research in neuroscience. The ideal candidate will have a well-established extramurally funded imaging research program in neurodegenerative disease research that complements and intersects with existing strengths in the Department of Brain Health.
Current strengths in the department include Dr. Jeffrey Cummings' work building a Clinical Trial Observatory to track and analyze Alzheimer clinical trials. Other faculty strengths include biomarker discovery, cognitive and neuropsychological functioning, and neurodegenerative disorder risk and resilience across diverse and underserved groups. The successful applicant will lead a new imaging facility at UNLV that includes a 3T Siemens fMRI scanner and will be a source for numerous collaborative opportunities.
The department houses state of the art Biobanking and Biomarker Discovery capabilities to foster collaborative opportunities for the successful applicant. The position includes mentoring, advising and supervising graduate students in the UNLV Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Ph.D. program. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to meet University criteria related to research, teaching, and service, for a tenured position that demonstrates strong research and accomplishment in their field and will be expected to adhere to UNLV Top Tier Initiatives regarding research productivity, which includes securing extramural grant support and publication in high impact peer reviewed journals.
PROFILE of the DEPARTMENT
The Department of Brain Health is primarily focused on neurodegenerative disease research that spans from investigations of progress and process in clinical trials, health disparities in neurodegenerative diseases, identification and the examination of biomarkers of disease, and preclinical investigations of mechanisms driving disease and novel treatments in Alzheimer's disease, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Stroke.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a Ph.D. in Physics, Neuroscience, or closely related field from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Post-doctoral experience is preferred.
