Assistant Professor‑in‑Residence and Basic Course Director, Communication Studies

University of Nevada‑Las Vegas (UNLV) invites applications for a 12‑month Assistant Professor‑in‑Residence position, starting Fall 2026, with an assignment to serve as the Basic Course Director for the Public Speaking course.

• Oversee, manage, and coordinate the introductory Public Speaking course, comprised of more than 60 sections each semester in hybrid and online formats.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses within the Communication Studies program.
• Administer all aspects of the course, including curriculum design, assessment, and updating to ensure effective skill development.
• Supervise, mentor, and evaluate all instructors teaching the basic course.
• Develop and implement workforce‑readiness micro‑credentials linked to communication skills.
• Contribute to the redevelopment of the M.A. program into an online, professional‑oriented degree.
• Fulfill a typical teaching load of 12 credit hours per semester (4/4 course load) and provide anticipated service.

• Ph.D. in Communication or a closely related field from an accredited institution, with 1‑3 years of experience, required.
• Expertise in Instructional Communication, Assessment, and Learning; experience as a Basic Course Director preferred.
• Background in workforce development, career readiness, experiential learning, or community‑based learning is desirable.
• Secondary expertise in Interpersonal/Family or Mediated Communication is preferred.
• Ability to teach both in‑person and online formats.
