Job Description
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas, invites applications for an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental & Global Health in the School of Public Health [R0150958].
ROLE of the POSITION
This is a 9-month, tenure- track position beginning in Fall 2026. The UNLV School of Public Health (SPH) is seeking a tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor within the Department of Environmental and Global Health. The Department offers public health courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. If hired, the applicant will be expected to meet the University's criteria for research, teaching, and service.
The UNLV School of Public Health was established in 2004 and is a Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) accredited School of Public Health. SPH is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of people worldwide. Its departments, programs, and research units work to provide a diverse education, practical training experiences, and numerous opportunities for community involvement to prepare students to become professionals and leaders in the field of public health.
A successful candidate will have research expertise and experience related to global public health. Areas of interest may include, but not limited to, aging, chronic or infectious disease, obesity, nutrition, maternal health, injury, humanitarian emergencies, mental health, climate change, environmental challenges and exposures, adolescent health, sexual and gender minorities (SGM) health, or native american health.
The faculty member is expected to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in global and public health as well as provide training and mentorship for students interested in interdisciplinary and collaborative research in global and public health.
The candidate should have an established record of scientific publications and research dissemination that includes local, regional, and national presentations at conferences, seminars, symposia, and community outreach events. Additionally, a successful candidate should demonstrate a record of or potential to secure external grant awards from agencies such as the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Science Foundation, and other funding agencies.
Since equitable partnerships are vital for global health research, a successful candidate should have potential or current collaborations with international sites, key stakeholders, and/or global health donors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a PhD, DrPH, or other appropriate doctoral degree in a public health or health science-related field from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Expertise in research design and methods relevant to implementation science in global health.
* A strong record of scholarship and peer-reviewed publications in global or public health.
* Evidence of successful or promising potential for external research funding.
* A demonstrated record of building and sustaining international collaborations that support student mentorship, experiential overseas learning, and field-based research training.
* Experience teaching global health or public health courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
* Experience conducting interdisciplinary research collaborations and mentoring students.
* Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
