Under the direct supervision of school administration, the special education teacher is responsible for working with students who have a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities. The teacher will adapt general education lessons and provide interventions and instruction for various subjects, such as reading, writing, and math, to students with disabilities.

SalaryThe compensation for this position is in alignment with the BANV Governing Board approved Salary Schedule; the Salary Schedule is based on years’ experience and degree held. Compensation for all positions are determined by the Governing Board and Administration of Beacon Academy. Consideration is given to experience and specialized skills in determining salary.
Salary Range: $58,420 – $121,416;
PhD - $1,200 annual stipend

- Develops, implements and acts as teacher of record of Individualized Education Plans (IEP) for students with disabilities.
- Update daily the BANV authorized systems to track student progress as directed by administration.
- Assess students' skills, analyze progress and provide appropriate instruction.
- Adapt lessons to meet the needs of students.
- Implement IEPs, assess students’ performance, and track student progress.
- Update IEPs throughout the school year to reflect students’ progress towards goals.
- Evaluate and monitor students’ performance through monitoring and collaboration with the general education teacher.
- Work to adapt coursework and make accommodations based upon student IEP.
- Review student’s progress with parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators.
- Supervise and mentor teacher assistants who work with students with disabilities.
- Prepare students for transition from grade to grade and post‑graduation using approved BANV strategies.
- Plan and instruct high school students on a blended campus in content areas as assigned by collaborating with colleagues for students in whole‑group, or interventions based on small group, or one‑on‑one.
- Implement all aspects of Academic Seminar, including student progress monitoring and goal setting utilizing the STEP card and 1:1 time with each student.
- Monitor special education student weekly progress, provide interventions on an ongoing basis, and communicate progress to students, staff, and parents.
- Prepare online and face‑to‑face courses/lessons, assessments, syllabus, course calendar, and assignments in the Learning Management System (LMS).
- Participate in the development and review of instructional strategies, assignments, and assessments for assigned courses.
- Respond to student and parent/guardian issues and concerns via email or telephone in a timely manner (within 24 hours).
- Develop and maintain relationships through regular interaction and communication with academic staff, faculty, students, and parents; advise administration and mentor of class or student needs.
- Proctor school and statewide testing.
- Analyze testing data and adjust instructional strategies, as needed, to maximize the probability of student success.
- Participate in all teacher training and professional development activities required by the school, and any and all training and certification maintenance requirements mandated by state law.
- Assist in the implementation of SWPBS. Use the administrative tools provided to monitor, report and coach students to maintain effective and efficient SWPBS.
- Develop and inform students of reasonable rules concerning procedures and behavioral expectations.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media, and performance assessments, which guide the learning process toward academic achievement and curriculum goals under the MTSS umbrella.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, corporation policy, and administrative regulations. Follow all school related procedures and policies.
