DescriptionThe Microbiology Instructor plans, teaches, directs, and supervises student learning experiences in the classroom and science laboratory following the approved curriculum and course syllabi. The instructor serves as part of the MFSON through active participation in course planning, implementation, and evaluation activities. The instructor reports directly to the Dean of Nursing.
All instructors must follow policies and procedures outlined in the Nursing Faculty Handbook and the College Catalog.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrate knowledge and expertise in the study of microbiology and related fields of study.
- Assume teaching responsibilities and participate in the development and delivery of instructional activities of the science faculty within the nursing program for the topic of Microbiology.
- Mentors associate science faculty, such as laboratory instructors, and promote faculty development.
- Conducts course and semester performance evaluations of the students enrolled within the Microbiology courses.
- Use a variety of teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students.
- Facilitate instruction using alternative teaching methodologies as needed.
- Maintain office hours.
- Participate in the assessment of student learning outcomes.
- Establish, maintain, and submit accurate student and instructional records each semester according to established deadlines.
- Develop instructional materials and evaluation tools in collaboration with other faculty members.
- Review and propose updated course textbooks and resources.
- Encourage students in the development of communication skills and higher order thinking skills through appropriate assignments.
- Update and post course syllabi in a timely manner.
- Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances.
- Record and provide attendance data in accordance with College Policies and Procedures.
- Adhere to all college policies and procedures.
