Assistant Dean Of Graduate Student Services

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Assistant Dean of Graduate Student Services, Graduate College.

The Assistant Dean of Student Services is a senior administrative faculty position within the Graduate College, providing strategic leadership, policy authority, and oversight of graduate and professional student services, including adjudication, appeals, grievance processes, and high-impact professional development initiatives. The Assistant Dean is responsible for shaping both the graduate student experience and the institutional systems that govern student progression, policy interpretation, and dispute resolution.

This position plays a dual role:

(1) leading some of the Graduate College's most visible student engagement and community-building initiatives, and

(2) serving as the chief adjudicator and policy authority for graduate student academic appeals and Graduate Assistant (GA) grievance processes.

This position requires a Ph.D. from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and 5-7 years of experience. Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date.

  • Significant and progressively responsible experience in higher education leadership, including academic administration, graduate education, or student services in a complex institutional environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with academic policy interpretation, student appeals, adjudication, or grievance processes, including the ability to manage cases from intake through resolution.
  • Proven ability to manage complex, sensitive, and high-stakes cases requiring discretion, sound judgment, and consistent application of policy and procedure.
  • Experience applying and interpreting institutional, system-level, and federal policies and regulations (e.g., FERPA, Title IX, FLSA, or comparable frameworks).
  • Demonstrated expertise in conflict resolution, mediation, and due process, including navigating emotionally charged or legally sensitive situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide clear, defensible written and verbal decisions and communications in complex cases.
  • Experience leading or contributing to graduate student services, student success initiatives, or professional development programming.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fair and consistent policy application across diverse student populations.
