Position Title

Assistant Professor‑in‑Residence in Professional Practice and Community Engagement [R0151725]

Position Summary

Full‑time, non‑tenure‑track academic appointment within the College of Fine Arts. The role is designed to strengthen the school’s instructional and outreach capacity in professional practice, leadership, collaboration, and community engagement.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver professional practice coursework covering project delivery, ethics, and practice operations.
  • Mentor students pursuing internships, licensure pathways (AXP/ARE), and career placement.
  • Lead or contribute to community‑engaged design studios and initiatives in partnership with local organizations, public agencies, and nonprofit stakeholders.
  • Cultivate industry and community partnerships to expand experiential learning opportunities and workforce development pipelines.
  • Contribute to NAAB accreditation and assessment efforts through documentation of professional practice and engagement activities.
  • Participate in applied research and school‑wide initiatives that connect students to practice‑based and community‑centered work.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Terminal degree in Architecture from a professionally accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and/or CHEA.
  • Professional licensure in architecture.
  • Demonstrated professional experience in architectural practice.
  • Evidence of engagement in community‑based, public‑interest, or applied design work.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and mentor students in a professional‑practice context.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior teaching experience in an accredited architecture program.
  • Demonstrated success in developing industry and/or community partnerships.
  • Experience with community design practice.
  • Familiarity with NAAB accreditation standards and processes.
