Job Description
Assistant Professor Radiochemistry, Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry (R0150293) – tenure‑track position.
Role of the Position- Contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching in chemistry, inorganic materials, nuclear science, and radiochemistry.
- Develop a vigorous, externally funded research program in radiochemistry, such as radio analytical, separations, forensics, radiopharmaceuticals, synthesis, or other closely related areas that emphasize science involving radio elements.
- Engage in service to the university and community.
- Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research through laboratory engagement and direct supervision.
The faculty member will primarily teach radiochemistry courses while supporting existing chemistry courses. Expectation to contribute to the development and delivery of the undergraduate radiochemistry curriculum.
Exploiting and actively utilizing existing laboratory equipment and facilities is expected. Successful applicants will develop a rigorous, externally funded research program that contributes to the research and education mission while participating in the maintenance, expansion, and shared use of radiochemistry infrastructure. The successful candidate is also expected to provide scientific and programmatic leadership in ongoing and emerging research initiatives and to build upon existing faculty collaborations, professional networks, and external partnerships.
Profileof the Department/College
The UNLV Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry has 27 full‑time tenured/tenure‑track faculty members engaged in extramurally supported research across broad areas including physical, materials & computational chemistry, biochemistry, analytical, inorganic & organic chemistry, radiochemistry, and chemical education.
Radiochemistry at UNLV is research intensive and one of the few active U.S. programs that provides laboratory access to radio elements for spectroscopic and material studies. The program focuses on radio element speciation with applications in the nuclear fuel cycle, nuclear forensics, and medical applications.
Minimum QualificationsPh.D. in radiochemistry or a closely related discipline (nuclear engineering, inorganic chemistry, forensic, or health physics) from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and/or CHEA.
Proven record of research accomplishments.
Preferred QualificationsPost‑doctoral research training or equivalent research/industrial experience.
