Safekey Site and Behavior Trainer

The city of Las Vegas Youth Development and Social Initiatives department is seeking individuals to fill the Safekey Site and Behavior Trainer position for the 2026 to 2027 school year. The Safekey Before and After School enrichment programs are offered at 71 elementary schools within the city of Las Vegas. These programs provide a safe environment where children in kindergarten through 5th grade engage in fun enrichment and recreational activities, have a nutritious snack, and have time to work on their homework under the supervision of caring adult role models.

Work hours, shift and location are subject to be changed at any time based on program and facility needs. This position is part-time and is scheduled, on average, 19-25 hours per week. Employment is seasonal and the Clark County School District calendar is used as a guide for staff scheduling. Work hours are limited during summer break (June through July). Hourly Safekey employees are also limited to 1,019 hours of work from July 2026 to June 2027.

Responsibilities
  • Provides hands-on training to Site Leaders and Site Assistants on the daily operations of a Safekey program, including, but not limited to, curriculum planning and implementation, activity facilitation, and site organization.
  • Travels to multiple work locations on a daily or weekly basis. Locations may include Las Vegas City Hall and the 71 city of Las Vegas Safekey school sites.
  • Adjusts to unexpected changes in work assignments, locations, or schedules as required.
  • Conducts site observations to assess staff performance, provide feedback and guide staff on adherence to program policies and procedures.
  • Trains staff on behavior management strategies, such as proactive and reactive techniques, deescalation strategies (verbal and nonverbal), and conflict resolution.
  • Assists in developing behavior intervention strategies and individualized behavior plans for participants as needed.
  • Supports staff in implementing group management techniques to enhance program engagement and effectiveness.
  • Mets the physical agility necessary to demonstrate and maintain sports and other recreation games and activities, including the ability to move, lift and maintain equipment up to 25 lbs.
  • Provides guidance on professional communication, customer service, and leadership to foster a positive work environment.
  • Ensures that Site Leaders and Assistants understand and follow safety protocols, program policies and procedures for daily operations, and emergency procedures.
  • Writes and assists in writing professional documentation, including behavior plans, email communications, curriculum planning, and incident reports.
  • Supports program planning and management by helping staff schedule activities, structure daily programming, and implement engaging games and learning experiences.
  • Collaborates with other Site and Behavior Trainers, as well as Safekey full time staff to assess training needs and develop new training materials.
  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of training programs, makes recommendations, and implements changes for improvements.
  • Provides ongoing mentorship and coaching to Safekey staff to enhance their professional development.
  • Provides active, roving supervision of indoor and outdoor activities for extended periods (60 minutes or more) while standing and walking in varying weather conditions, including heat.
  • Completes and maintains all department-required trainings and certifications.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalency (HSE) Credential.
  • Infant, Child and Adult CPR, AED and First Aid certification at time of start reclassification.
  • One school year of experience as a Safekey Site Leader or Site Assistant, or equivalent experience working with youth in educational, enrichment, behavioral support and/or recreational settings; experience in schools, summer camps, and after-school programs is highly valued.
  • Proficiency with technology such as iPads, printers, cell phones, and internet-based applications.
