Job Description

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Transition Advisor, UNLV Enrollment Management, Academic UNLV CSN Transfer Center [R0151904].

Role Overview

This position exists to provide academic advising and major/career planning for CSN students planning to transfer to UNLV. The position may be located on the main UNLV campus or at one of the UNLV satellite campuses located at CSN (Henderson, Charleston, or North Las Vegas), requiring flexibility to work across multiple locations. The Transition Advisor (TA) works with CSN and UNLV campus administrative offices to stay up-to-date on curriculum and university policies and procedures, providing accurate information to students.

The TA also works with swirl students, promotes diversity, inclusion, and engagement, acts as a liaison between advising centers and other units across CSN & UNLV campuses, and collaborates with enrollment management, college faculty and staff, including faculty, undergraduate coordinators, and department chairs. The UNLV/CSN partnership requires the TA to attend events and travel to and from various locations. Successful execution of the role entails coordination with UNLV CSN campus resources such as the Registrar’s Office, Admissions, Career Services, and UNLV Advising centers.

All advising staff report directly to the UNLV/CSN Transfer Program (UCTP) Director and support the transfer program’s strategic plan. The position requires knowledge of the complexities of transfer student transitions and must provide leadership in special initiatives. The TA will be expected to travel both in and out of state and work irregular hours, including weekends and evenings.

Responsibilities
  • Provide academic advising and major/career planning for CSN students
  • Work across CSN satellite campuses and the main UNLV campus
  • Collaborate with CSN and UNLV administrative offices to maintain current curriculum information
  • Promote and support diversity, inclusion, and student engagement
  • Act as a liaison between advising centers and other units across CSN & UNLV campuses
  • Coordinate with enrollment management, college faculty, and staff (including faculty, undergraduate coordinators, department chairs)
  • Participate in UNLV/CSN partnership events and maintain a travel schedule to and from related locations
  • Provide leadership in carrying out special initiatives as assigned by the Director or other leadership
  • Work irregular hours, including weekends and evenings as necessary
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the United States
  • 1–3 years of related professional experience
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle with valid auto insurance
  • Credentials must be obtained prior to employment start date
  • In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, applicants may qualify with four additional years of relevant experience, or an associate’s degree plus two additional years of relevant experience
  • One year of work experience in a customer service related industry (a master’s degree may substitute for work experience)
Preferred Experience
  • Three years of experience in academic advising in higher education
  • General knowledge of admissions, registration systems, and financial aid functions at both CSN and UNLV
  • Knowledge of CSN and UNLV general core requirements for each major and the policies and procedures of the college and university
