The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Library Technician 1, UNLV University Libraries.
This position will be scheduled Tuesday through Saturday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.
The major purpose of this position is to assist library users at the Lied Library's Circulation Service Desk and to provide support for circulation services in three branch library locations (Teacher Development and Resources, Architecture Studies, and Music), utilizing a variety of skills. Circulation desk assistance includes providing courteous and professional service to library patrons resolving problems checking out materials to users, explaining policies, answering questions, and making effective referrals.
This position is responsible for resolving library borrowing account issues one-on-one with library users. This position must determine the appropriate course of action to attempt to recover materials from patrons with long overdue materials. The incumbent determines when accounts are to be sent to the contracted collection agency for the libraries in accordance with library policy and works with the collection agency to collect outstanding debts.
In addition, under supervision, this position is able to adjust financial obligations based on analysis of the patron situation on a case-by-case basis.
Another core purpose of this position is to grant, alter, or remove library access for several unique user groups ranging from UNLV faculty and staff leaving employment. The position manages the addition or removal of library holds through the MyUNLV system, affecting the access of a student to their grades, enrollment verification, and transcripts.

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of customer service experience in a library or other cultural heritage institution; OR one year of experience as a Library Assistant III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Grade 27 Step 1, salary $47,126.16.
In accordance with Nevada Administrative Code (NAC) 284.170, initial appointments to classified positions typically begin at Step 1 of the assigned grade. A "Step" refers to the specific rate of pay within a grade, as determined by the Division of Human Resources.
