Position: Director of Learning & Development, Alpha - $200,000/year USD

The most meaningful support you can offer a student who achieves 99% is to refuse to round it up to 100%. Not out of indifference — but because you know they're capable of reaching it, and lowering expectations is the true disservice. If that reasoning resonates, continue reading. If it feels overly strict, this position will likely frustrate you.

Students at Alpha don't passively attend lectures. They move through adaptive learning apps at double the speed of conventional classrooms while simultaneously developing practical life skills. Your responsibility is ensuring three core commitments are fulfilled for every student in your cohort: they develop a love for school, they accelerate their learning by 2x, and they acquire competencies no traditional textbook provides.

You also mentor the Guides who uphold these same commitments throughout your campus.

Data informs every choice, and every interaction is in person. Your time divides between your own student cohort and the Guides under your leadership — and the expectation remains identical for both: measurable advancement, without exception. When a Guide's session under performs, you don't draft a memo; you observe, debrief immediately, and course‑correct that same afternoon.

You may be establishing a brand-new campus from the ground up and shaping the foundational culture that will define the school. As the campus evolves, your emphasis transitions from operational startup mode to coaching leadership, cultivating the team that scales Alpha's approach across your region.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Facilitating one-hour interactive life skills and social-emotional learning (SEL) sessions with K‑8 students covering topics such as public speaking and focus, adhering to Alpha's established playbook.
  • Conducting daily motivation sessions that ensure 100% of students reach their weekly app-based goals through age‑appropriate incentives including school currency and leaderboards.
  • Developing Guides via observation, precise feedback, and direct mentorship so they execute workshops with equivalent energy and consistency to your own.
  • Analyzing Coachbot data and student records to pinpoint who requires intervention, then delivering that intervention yourself.
  • Personally mentoring your designated student cohort, exemplifying the coaching and motivational techniques you expect every Guide to employ.
What You Won’t Be Doing
  • Creating lesson plans or developing curriculum. Students engage with adaptive apps; your responsibility is making the people who support them exceptional.
  • Delivering traditional classroom lectures. You're 80% performer, 20% content expert; if you prefer standing at a whiteboard, this role isn't the right fit.
  • Compromising standards due to pressure from parents or administrators. When a student achieves 99%, the response is "not yet" — and you'll be empowered to maintain that standard.
  • Spending time in an office managing paperwork. The majority of your day involves direct interaction with students and Guides.
  • Waiting weeks for performance evaluations. Outcomes are visible in real time via Coachbot, and adjustments occur immediately.
Key Responsibilities

Fulfill Alpha's 3 Promises for your cohort and the Guides under your leadership: every student loves school, learns at 2x the standard pace, and develops genuine life skills.
