Paraprofessional – Special Education Program Support - #7572
Located in southeast Arizona, Sierra Vista Unified School District seeks dedicated individuals to support students with special needs.
Qualifications- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Associate's Degree or 60 college credits, or State/Local Para Pro Assessment test required
- Previous experience working with youth preferred
- Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification
- Ability to obtain a valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Ability to participate in the District's Medicaid program
- Knowledge of accepted behavior management techniques for persons with disabilities
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions
- Interpersonal and problem‑solving skills related to special education services
- Maintain accurate records and reports, monitor students, and secure student cooperation
- Basic first aid methods, including CPR
- Knowledge of specialized equipment used for children with special needs
- Operate computer equipment for email, word processing, data management, and related tasks
- Apply common sense to solve practical problems in a variety of situations
- Empathy, patience, and genuine passion for working with students with disabilities
- Cooperate courteously with staff, students, parents, and community members
- Utilize the District Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) program at the building level
- Maintain student and parent confidentiality and refrain from discussing students in inappropriate settings
- Perform duties in accordance with Federal and State laws, district procedures, and Board policies, including mandatory reporting procedures
- Assist in planning classroom activities and student learning for students with disabilities
- Assist in planning the daily activity
- Identify areas of need related to the program
- Participate in the development, planning, and implementation of the program
- Assist students in classroom activities to maximize inclusion and learning
- Work one‑on‑one and in small groups with students on specific needs
- Support classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions and keep students on task
- Assist teacher in modifying student assignments as needed
- Assist and train students in activities of daily living as needed (e.g., diapering, toileting, feeding, hygiene, dressing, mobility)
- Be knowledgeable of basic course content, educational goals, and objectives for students
- Perform medical tasks under the direction of licensed medical providers (e.g., catheterizations, trachea tube care, gastric tube feeding)
- Follow all applicable safety rules, procedures, and regulations governing assistance for all students
Reach with hands and arms, sit, stand, walk, stoop, and bend as necessary. Lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects weighing 50–75 pounds frequently. Lift and assist students requiring manual assistance. Read correspondence and computer screens, and use the telephone.
Work EnvironmentIndoor school building and classroom environment with occasional outdoor activities. Moderately noisy environment; may become excessively noisy eraction with students, staff, and the public.
Organizational RelationshipsReports to the principal or site administrator. Interacts cooperatively with all other staff positions and practices good human relations.
Terms of EmploymentINITIAL WAGE PLACEMENT PLAN: Starting at $15.85 per hour
WORK YEAR: 9 months / 6.6 hours per day
