Academic Advisor, UNLV Student Academic Success
This position serves as a professional academic advisor providing comprehensive academic advising and career/major exploration services to all University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) students, including those in the Exploring major, pre-professional students, non-degree-seeking students and students in majors where additional advising support is needed. The advisor is expected to operate with a high level of independence, sound judgment, and initiative while delivering accurate, student-centered guidance across a broad range of academic programs.
In this role, the academic advisor provides on-call advising support across multiple advising centers and must maintain a strong, working knowledge of all UNLV majors, minors, certificates, and microcredentials. Advisors support students in clarifying academic goals, exploring and selecting majors, and making informed decisions that promote retention, progression, and timely degree completion. This academic advisor position functions as both an independent contributor and a collaborative partner.
The advisor proactively builds relationships and works in coordination with advising leadership and colleagues across campus to ensure consistency in advising practices to meet the evolving student and institutional needs.
Key responsibilities include conducting one-on-one advising appointments in person, by phone, email, and via video conferencing, as well as initiating proactive outreach to support student success initiatives. The advisor is expected to remain current on curriculum, policies, and procedures, and to take initiative in identifying solutions, improving processes, and enhancing the student experience. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by Student Success leadership.

With administrative faculty positions, some evening and weekend work may be necessary and there may be occasional travel.
This advising position is within the Exploring and Pre-Professional Advising Center which is part of the Student Success team. The Student Success team is responsible for leading campus-wide initiatives that support enrollment growth and equitable student success through academic and student success programming to promote retention, progression, timely degree completion, and career readiness while closing achievement gaps. Student Success teams work closely with department chairs and faculty across the campus to support student academic success efforts, the implementation of student-centered and equitable academic advising practices, and deliver impactful student academic support programming from First-Year Experience through graduation.
Minimum QualificationsThis position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and one year of experience. Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date.
Preferred QualificationsPreferred qualifications include strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and support diverse student populations, faculty, and campus partners. Experience working with pre-professional and exploring students is also preferred, including providing guidance in academic planning, career exploration, and goal development.
