The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Academic Advisor, UNLV Student Academic Success [R0152608]
ROLE of the POSITION
This position serves as a professional academic advisor providing comprehensive academic advising and career/major exploration services to all University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) students, including those in the Exploring major, pre-professional students, non-degree-seeking students and students in majors where additional advising support is needed. The advisor is expected to operate with a high level of independence, sound judgment, and initiative while delivering accurate, student-centered guidance across a broad range of academic programs.
In this role, the academic advisor provides on-call advising support across multiple advising centers and must maintain a strong, working knowledge of all UNLV majors, minors, certificates, and microcredentials. Advisors support students in clarifying academic goals, exploring and selecting majors, and making informed decisions that promote retention, progression, and timely degree completion. This academic advisor position functions as both an independent contributor and a collaborative partner.
The advisor proactively builds relationships and works in coordination with advising leadership and colleagues across campus to ensure consistency in advising practices to meet the evolving student and institutional needs.
Key responsibilities include conducting one-on-one advising appointments in person, by phone, email, and via video conferencing, as well as initiating proactive outreach to support student success initiatives. The advisor is expected to remain current on curriculum, policies, and procedures, and to take initiative in identifying solutions, improving processes, and enhancing the student experience. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by Student Success leadership.
