Part‑Time Senator – North Las Vegas Campus – ASCSN – FY2027

Job Description The CSN Extension Campus Senator promotes student life and student initiatives at the extension sites. Responsibilities include office duties, administering programs, surveys, and gauging the student population; attending required workshops and student development trainings.

Responsibilities
  • Serve on at least one ASCSN Standing Committee and two ASCSN Ad‑hoc Committees.
  • Approve By‑Law legislation proposed by the ASCSN By‑law and Constitution Committee by a two‑thirds (2/3) simple majority vote of the entire ASCSN Senate at a regularly scheduled ASCSN Senate meeting.
  • Pass financial funding items with a simple majority vote at a scheduled ASCSN Senate meeting.
  • Override a presidential veto with approval by a two‑thirds (2/3) supermajority vote of the ASCSN Senate at a scheduled Senate meeting.
  • Dedicate at least 12 hours per week to senatorial programs, assignments, and student assistance on the represented campus when classes are in session.
  • Optionally spend up to one‑third (1/3) of weekly hours helping during ASCSN events.
  • Deliver a brief presentation in one class each month to discuss the ASCSN Student Government; the presentation time shall be declared by the class professor or instructor.
  • Ensure presentations are not delivered to classes already visited or where the Senator is enrolled.
  • Dedicate two working hours per week to promote ASCSN Student Government and events, with prior approval from a member of the ASCSN Executive Board.
  • Spend remaining hours on committee assignments.
  • Refrain from representing a club, organization, or department/division for attendance/accountability at ASCSN meetings.
  • Address items of nonfeasance, recommending dismissal or referral to the Grievance Committee and Judicial Board, reporting findings to the Senate.
  • Administer sanctions or removal of Senate members by a two‑thirds (2/3) simple majority vote.
  • Face removal from the Senate after three unexcused absences from Senate or committee meetings in an academic semester; submit a dispute agenda to the Grievance Committee and Judicial Board before minutes approval.
  • Submit a statement of interests detailing conflicts of interest at the start of each term, updating it as needed.
  • Submit proof of enrollment (minimum six credits) each semester to the President; exceptions may be granted within the first two Senate meetings of the new semester.
  • Uphold standards of a servant leader at all times on CSN premises and during off‑campus events, adhering to the CSN Student Conduct Code, Student Honor Code, and all ASCSN governing documents.
  • Maintain compliance with ASCSN By‑law Article V to avoid nonfeasance.
Academic Requirements
  • Enrolled in at least six credit hours each semester at the applicable campus.
  • Maintain a semester GPA of 2.25 or higher.
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher.
Required In‑Person Training Schedule

Monday, June 22 – Thursday, June 25: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM each day.

Monday, July 13 – Thursday, July 16: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM each day.

Monday, August 10 – Thursday, August 14: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM each day.

Spring Training:
Monday, January 11 – Thursday, January 14, 2027: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM each day.

Salary Information

$12.95 per hour; not exempt; full‑time equivalent: 48.8 %.
