Position: Academic Advisor (NLV)

Job Description

The Academic Advisor (NLV) works in a collaborative and inclusive environment to provide academic advising to prospective, new, transfer, and continuing education students. The Advisor assists students with course selection, program requirements, and path to graduation, and helps develop personalized success plans.

Responsibilities

The Advisor provides individual and group advising, participates in retention activities, and may be involved in special projects assigned by the college. The Advisor examines program requirements, interprets policies, and takes corrective actions to support academic success.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university;
    OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One year post‑secondary or graduate assistant experience in college recruitment, advising, or retention services.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with in the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE).
  • Direct academic advising and/or coaching experience in a community college setting.
  • Understanding of the purpose and function of community colleges.
  • People Soft proficiency related to Student Services, Degree Audits, and reporting.
  • Experience working with a diverse student body.
  • Bilingual Spanish language skills.
Skills and Abilities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to convey information and ideas clearly.
  • Critical‑thinking skills to evaluate complex student situations.
  • Goal‑setting, planning, and organizational abilities.
  • Knowledge of institutional policies and advising theories.
  • Experience in student counseling, development, or related field.
  • Ability to provide academic, personal, financial, adjustment, and career advisement to a diverse college student population.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Understanding of advising best practices.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and initiative in executing short‑ and long‑term action plans.
  • Approachable and personable, with excellent writing, interpersonal, and public‑speaking skills.
  • Competency with Microsoft Teams/Web Ex for student communication.
Salary and Benefits

Starting salary: $50,207 (Administrative Faculty
