Position: International Scholar Advisor, UNLV International Students and Scholars [R0152086]

International Scholar Advisor, UNLV International Students and Scholars (R0152086)

Reporting to the Director of International Student and Scholar Compliance, the International Scholar Advisor supports the Director in facilitating the arrival and regulatory compliance of scholars and students  Advisor assists in initiatives to build a supportive university experience, working with senior leadership to promote belonging, ease transitions, and provide resources to enhance the stay of international scholars.

Responsibilities
  • Advise international employees, visiting scholars, and student interns on immigration requirements for maintaining status and implementing both federal immigration and internal policies.
  • Collaborate with the Director to create, document, and maintain business practices for efficient hiring and retention of international faculty/staff in accordance with federal regulations and university policies.
  • Proactively improve and update scholar services as regulatory changes occur.
  • Process student and scholar immigration requests and coordinate permanent residency petitions with external counsel.
  • Work collaboratively with university offices—including colleges, academic advising units, Academic Affairs, Human Resources, and Student Life—to optimize international student and scholar experiences.
  • Lead special projects assigned by the Director.
  • Maintain compliance with Department of Homeland Security and Department of State regulations, requiring the Advisor to be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or CHEA.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency.
  • 1–2 years of professional experience in a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree.
  • Experience in higher education and international education.
  • At least one year of experience working with international students or scholars.
  • Experience serving as an Alternate Responsible Official (ARO).
  • Familiarity with People Soft or other student information management systems such as Terra Dotta.
