Position: EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES TRAINING INSTRUCTOR

About The Position

Clark County Fire Department is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the position of EMS Training Instructor. This position will be responsible for preparing, delivering, and evaluating public safety, supervisory and other training courses and classes which pertain to Emergency Medical Services, fire service, management, and supervision.

EXAMINATION/SELECTION PROCESS

Training Exercise and Presentation – 40%

Interview Panel – 60%

Presentation & EMS Operations Procedure

Candidates will have one hour to prepare a 10-minute PowerPoint training presentation and a one-page informational summary for crews to reference from a list of topics that are meant to reveal a candidate’s knowledge of EMS topics. They will be given 10 minutes to present said training and both components will be evaluated by the panel.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to an Associate's Degree or 60 college credits in Fire Science, Criminal Justice, Management, Business Administration, Education, or related field (related experience may be substituted for the degree on a year-for-year basis) and one (1) year of full-time professional experience in providing training or instruction, preferably in a system delivering 911 emergency medical services; or,

Any employee with three (3) years continuous full-time professional experience at the Clark County Fire Department.

All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application.

Certifications

At the time of application must possess Paramedic certification and EMS Instructor I or higher. Candidates selected for this position will be required to obtain EMS Instructor II and BLS, ACLS, and PALS Instructor certifications within one (1) year of date of hire.

License

Must possess a valid Class C Driver’s License at the time of appointment.

Citizenship

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

It is a condition of employment that any fire service employee hired into the Fire Department after January 1, 1993, not use tobacco in any form.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
  • Prepares, designs and delivers specialized training programs in the areas of emergency medical services and operations.
  • Assists in the scheduling of training classes/sessions.
  • Coordinates EMS training activities with other instructors and fire department personnel.
  • Obtains necessary equipment, space and other resources necessary to conduct effective training.
  • Produces necessary instructional aids and documentation.
  • Reviews and adapts prepared instructional materials.
  • Develops instructional materials for specific topics.
  • Develops student evaluation instruments to support instruction and the evaluation of test results.
  • Addresses needs based on QA/QI reviews and develops education to improve EMS knowledge and skills within the fire department.
  • Performs similar and related duties as required.
