Job Description

Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Secondary Principal, the Secondary (7th- 12th Grade) Social Dance and Character Development Teacher will provide students with an opportunity to participate in elective social emotional, character development, and social dance activities and instill in the students a lifelong appreciation life skills that meet our school’s mission for students who are honorable, esteemed, and distinguished. The secondary teacher will be expected to adhere to Amplus Academy’s professional standards as well as Nevada Department of Education licensure standards.

Amplus Academy is a classical education charter school located in the southwest area of Las Vegas. Amplus Academy has two campuses in Southwest Las Vegas serving the K-12 students of the valley.

Terms of Employment

10-month per Contract of Employment (179 Day Calendar)

Salary

The compensation for this position is in alignment with the Amplus Governing Board approved Salary Schedule;
Salary Schedule based on years’ experience and degree held. Compensation for all positions are determined by the Governing Board and Administration of Amplus Academy. Consideration is given for experience and specialized skills in determining salary.

Salary Range

$50,840- $80,000 with 100% Employer Paid PERS

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervises the behavior and instruction of students in the classroom, on school grounds (including hallways and lunch rooms) and on educational trips
Duties/Responsibilities Social Dance
  • Prepare session plans and establish course goals to ensure an exciting variety of social dance for students
  • Arrange dance pieces, directing students as appropriate
  • Teach etiquette standards and procedures for students according to course of study
  • Give advice/guidance to students within the area of dance on:physical and spatial awareness, musicality (rhythm, feel, etc.), use of body to express artistic ideas, choreography skills, and knowledge of dance theory and terminology
  • Demonstrate methods and procedures to pupils
  • Observe and evaluate student’s work to determine student progress or make suggestions for improvement
  • Where necessary, offer individual coaching and advice to students in the area of social dance
  • Work towards and prepare dance pieces for students for their end of year presentation
  • Maintain current and accurate records according to school policy
  • Practice positive, consistent discipline in the management of the classroom
Character Development (Ingenium)
  • Plan and develop an engaging, age-appropriate course of study in the classroom, adhering to educational best practices and school, state, and federal curriculum guidelines
  • Design and deliver individual lesson plans using a variety of teaching techniques and appealing to various learning styles
  • Ensure the opportunity for students to learn in a positive, supportive environment
  • Develop a classroom climate that promotes positive learning
  • Prepare materials for lessons, assignments, and tests; evaluates, corrects, and grades student performance
  • Analyzes student progress and provides appropriate instruction
  • Discusses academic difficulties or behavioral problems with students and parents as they arise
  • Monitors students’ progress throughout the year and evaluates preparedness for graduation, vocational school, or college, as appropriate
  • Collaborates with guidance counselors to help students develop post‑secondary plans including college or vocational school
  • Administers standardized tests in accordance with school and state laws and policies
General
  • Communicates with parents regarding academic, behavioral, or safety concerns in a timely manner to build positive relationships with parents
  • Meets staff development guidelines as set forth by the school
  • Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits
  • Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school, students and staff
  • Collaborates with colleagues to enhance the work environment
