Reporting to the Director, School of Medicine Library, the Makerspace Specialist is a key member of a team of professionals responsible for supporting the Makerspace in the School of Medicine Library. The Makerspace Specialist oversees the day-to-day operations of the School of Medicine Library's makerspace and provides expert instructions for groups utilizing emerging and multimedia technologies for educational and research purposes.

The Specialist provides personalized consultation on multimedia use, creation, and application. Through outreach to Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine faculty, students, residents/fellows and other campus partners and stakeholders, the Makerspace Specialist exercises leadership in developing and evolving emerging and multimedia technologies and services that support knowledge creation. Additionally, the Makerspace Specialist will investigate and evaluate emerging technologies for potential adoption, develop online learning objects, coordinate projects, engage in professional development, and help train student employees who support multimedia creation and use at the School of Medicine Library.

The School of Medicine Library (SOML) was established in 2017 as part of an effort to create a new medical school in Southern Nevada. SOML was established as a mostly digital library with nearly 97% of library resources primarily online. As a division of UNLV Libraries, SOML falls within the scope of the university library system and directly reports to the Dean of Libraries.

SOML primarily supports the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV (KSOM) which offers both an undergraduate medical education program comprised of medical students and a graduate medical education program comprised of residents and fellows. Each year KSOM welcomes 60 new medical students and approximately 80 residents and fellows in over 20 post-graduate programs. In support of the efforts to build physician capacity in Southern Nevada, SOML partners with KSOM faculty and staff to provide instruction, library programming, and access to library resources and services with a team of two library academic faculty, two staff, and eight student assistants at two locations within the Las Vegas Medical District.

This position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), computer science, instructional technology, multimedia-related degrees preferred and 1-3 years of experience working in makerspaces, fabrication labs, libraries, galleries, museums, archives, schools, community centers, or other related educational setting. Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date.

• Knowledge of design or fabrication using a combination of multimedia technology (e.g. prototyping, Laser cutting, 3D printing, digital or AutoCAD designing, audio technologies, etc.)
• Capacity or skill to instruct learners (e.g. student assistants, students, faculty, staff, etc.)
• Capacity or skill to create instructional content (e.g. guides, handouts, presentations, lesson plans, etc.)
• Capacity or skill to communicate effectively with others (e.g. ability to engage a non-technical audience with technical concepts, etc.)
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, partners, or stakeholders (e.g. ability to build positive relationships, identify and resolve issues effectively, etc.
