Position: Assistant Professor-In-Residence, College of Engineering [R0150463]

Overview

The University Of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor-In-Residence, College of Engineering [R0150463]. The appointment is teaching-focused with a significant service component and no formal research requirement. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2026.

Responsibilities
  • Teach and contribute to curriculum development in mechanical systems and technologies that support the entertainment and creative industries.
  • Engage in program assessment, student mentorship, and college and university service.
  • Develop and deliver interdisciplinary, application-oriented courses in areas such as additive manufacturing, mechanical fabrication, production systems, automation and control, mechatronics, and sustainable technology practices.
  • Support workforce preparation for the entertainment, media, and experiential design industries while strengthening UNLV’s STEM-focused mission.
Qualifications
  • Must hold a doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in Engineering or a closely related field by the time of appointment; degree must be from an accredited institution.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
  • Preference given to candidates with prior college-level teaching experience and industry engagement in entertainment, manufacturing, or related applied engineering fields.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong commitment to student success, mentoring, and undergraduate intellectual development.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver well-structured, rigorous, and interdisciplinary courses.
  • Demonstrated effective, innovative instructional methods that promote active learning and critical thinking.
Department and Program Context

The Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering at UNLV offers programs in electrical and computer engineering, computer science, mechanical engineering, and civil and environmental engineering. The Department of Applied and Interdisciplinary Engineering (newly established in January 2026) will include the Entertainment Engineering and Design program, which offers two degree programs:
Entertainment Engineering and Design and Entertainment Technology and Design.

Compensation and Benefits
