About the Role

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, construction, and maintenance of electrical systems across Anglo Gold Ashanti’s mining and processing operations in North America. This includes power infrastructure, substations, process plant systems, and surface and underground electrical networks.

The role combines hands-on field work with strategic technical oversight
, ensuring that all electrical systems meet safety, reliability, and performance standards. You will act as a key liaison between engineering, construction, and operations teams, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and to specification.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engineering Design & Technical Leadership
  • Lead and review detailed design of high voltage (HV), medium voltage (MV), and low voltage (LV) electrical systems, including substations, e-rooms, and MCCs.
  • Manage electrical control and automation networks (PLC, SCADA, and control panels) to ensure reliable operation and integration with process systems.
  • Conduct and maintain Arc Flash, Short Circuit, and Protection Coordination studies; ensure compliance with NFPA, NEC, and MSHA standards.
  • Ensure all engineering deliverables meet Anglo Gold Ashanti standards, project specifications, and relevant codes.
  • Extract and analyze engineering data from drawings, reports, and specifications to support project and maintenance planning.
  • Identify, recommend, and execute opportunities to automate process functions to improve safety and cost efficiencies.
  • Project Management & Execution
  • Coordinate the electrical engineering function during all project phases — concept, design, construction, commissioning, and handover.
  • Support the development of engineering documentation including Concept Studies, Project Execution Plans, User Requirements Specifications, and Close-Out Reports.
  • Manage Requests for Information (RFIs) and ensure timely communication with contractors and internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with project managers to develop and track cost estimates, schedules, and performance metrics for electrical scopes.
  • Lead contractor oversight for high-voltage and electrical construction activities, ensuring adherence to Anglo Gold Ashanti’s Critical Controls and EHS standards.
  • Support commissioning and start-up of new electrical systems, ensuring operational readiness and safe handover to operations.
  • Definition and implementation of the power connection strategy, managing interactions with the utility companies and system operators (e.g VEA, CAISO)
  • Operations, Maintenance & Reliability
  • Support day-to-day maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical systems across mine, plant, and infrastructure.
  • Develop and maintain preventive and predictive maintenance plans for switch gear, transformers, and power distribution systems.
  • Perform root cause failure analysis on electrical incidents and identify system improvement opportunities.
  • Assist with electrical SOP development, lockout/tagout procedures, and documentation control.
  • Support site reliability and continuous improvement initiatives in alignment with global engineering standards.
  • Safety, Compliance & Continuous Improvement
  • Promote a proactive safety culture in alignment with Anglo Gold Ashanti’s Safety Management System.
  • Ensure compliance with company, local, and federal electrical safety regulations (NFPA 70E, NEC, MSHA, OSHA).
  • Identify and mitigate risks through systematic reviews and audits of electrical systems.
  • Participate in safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to enhance operational efficiency and reduce downtime through innovation and technology.
About You Education & Certifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (required).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License or eligibility preferred.
  • MSHA Electrical Training Certificate (preferred).
