WSP is initiating a search for a Traffic Engineering Technical Director to lead our Las Vegas traffic group

WSP is seeking an experienced Traffic Engineer who is innovative, results-oriented, and team focused. The Traffic Engineering Technical Director will bring leadership and skills to help grow our business, oversee project delivery and staff development, and provide technical assistance and guidance in engineering and design for our local, state and regional clients.

• Lead a local team of dedicated traffic design and operations professionals, providing mentoring and fostering development.
• Provide traffic engineering technical expertise on projects.
• Lead traffic focused projects and traffic tasks on multi-disciplinary projects.
• Leverage client relationships to cross-sell services of WSP.
• Engage in professional societies and conference programs including committees, panels, and presentations.
• Collaborate with other traffic office and practice area leads within the Pacific Mountain West district for staff workload balance and work-sharing opportunities.
• Collaborate with local business unit leads in all disciplines to assist with business development opportunities and to ensure excellence in overall project delivery.
• Assure that engineering services lead the industry in professional standards, client requirements, budget controls, cost control, quality control, and project objectives.
• Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development.
• Manage and provide performance guidance and leadership to assigned staff.
• Remain current with the latest traffic engineering techniques and practices.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline.
• 12+ years of relevant post‑education experience in traffic engineering and design, including preparing construction drawings for traffic signal and illumination systems, signing/channelization, intelligent transportation systems, and work zone traffic control.
• Engineer license required (multi‑state preferred).
• Staff management experience.
• Project management experience.
• Advanced proficiency with traffic engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build, operational analyses, standard of care, and the application to DOT approvals, permitting, and project work‑related issues.
• Advanced proficiency with making technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
• Works independently and provides guidance and leadership to mid‑level to senior‑level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
• Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
• Tactical lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail and prioritization of responsibilities in a pressure work environment.
• Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including senior management, clients, regulators, and company‑wide staff, including those with whom no formal hierarchical relationship exists.
• Advanced proficiency with office automation, AutoCAD, Microstation, or similar software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
