Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Small Cell Field Engineer

The Small Cell Infrastructure Engineering Lead is a senior leadership role responsible for planning, coordinating, validating, and closing out wireless small cell infrastructure projects. This role owns the technical execution after pole and path creation, ensuring each site meets engineering standards, code requirements, customer specifications, and is fully ready for network turn-up.

This position bridges engineering, field execution, customer coordination, billing support, and final closeout documentation. While this role does not primarily perform construction or field labor, it requires deep hands‑on understanding of small cell systems to effectively lead crews, validate work, and interface with customers.

This is not an entry-level role and not a pure construction role.

Core Responsibilities Small Cell Engineering & Planning
  • Review customer scopes of work, construction drawings, and site designs for small cell deployments.
  • Validate engineering requirements for each site, including:
  • Power
  • Grounding
  • Cabinets
  • Cabling (fiber and power)
  • Assess readiness of newly constructed or pre-existing poles and infrastructure.
  • Identify gaps, deficiencies, or risks prior to execution.
  • Develop execution plans for site completion, remediation, or upgrades.
Field Execution Oversight
  • Oversee field crews and subcontractors performing small cell work, including:
  • Equipment installation within poles or cabinets
  • Power and grounding connections
  • Limited fiber installation or termination as required
  • Hardware mounting and configuration
  • Ensure all work is executed to customer standards and local code requirements.
  • Support work on pre-existing sites where punch list items must be completed to enable site turn-up.
  • Act as the technical authority in the field when issues arise.
Punch List Management & Site Readiness
  • Review and interpret customer‑issued punch lists.
  • Coordinate execution of punch list items across multiple sites.
  • Validate completion of all punch list items through field verification and documentation.
  • Ensure sites pass inspections, meet code, and are cleared for activation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve deficiencies that would prevent turn‑up.
Testing, Validation & Turn‑Up Support
  • Coordinate and validate required testing prior to site activation.
  • Verify signal integrity, equipment functionality, and system readiness.
  • Support customer testing, integration, and network turn‑up activities.
  • Identify and resolve issues that could impact network performance.
Documentation, Redlines & Closeout (EOP)
  • Review and produce redline and as‑built documentation reflecting actual field conditions.
  • Compile complete closeout documentation packages, including:
  • Punch list completion records
  • Test results
  • Lead the End of Project (EOP) closeout process.
  • Ensure all documentation is complete, accurate, and submitted in accordance with customer requirements.
Customer Communication
  • Serve as the technical point of contact for small cell projects.
  • Communicate site status, risks, punch list progress, and readiness for turn‑up.
  • Coordinate directly with customer engineering, construction, and operations teams.
  • Translate technical issues into clear, actionable updates.
  • Work closely with Project Management and the PMO to support accurate and timely billing.
  • Document completed work, including:
  • Site counts
  • Labor and material usage
  • Ensure executed work aligns with contract scope and billable units.
  • Support resolution of billing questions tied to site completion or scope changes.
Systems & Reporting
  • Update and maintain project data across customer and internal systems.
  • Experience with customer‑specific telecom platforms strongly preferred.
  • Ensure site data, documentation, and completion status are entered accurately and on time.
  • Adapt quickly to different customer systems and reporting requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • Proven experience with small cell or wireless infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of small cell site components, power, grounding, and equipment layouts.
  • Experience managing punch lists and site readiness for activation.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and scopes of work.
  • Strong documentation, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Experience coordinating across engineering, field crews, and customers.
  • Ability to lead multiple sites simultaneously and prioritize execution.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with Tier 1 wireless carriers.
  • Prior leadership or lead‑engineer experience on small cell programs.
  • Familiarity with fiber integration into small cell networks.
  • Experience supporting EOP or final acceptance packages.
  • Background in RF, electrical, or telecom engineering (formal or practical).
