About the Position
Plans Examiner II: $35.38 – $52.32 hourly.
Plans Examiner I is a training underfill position; upon successful completion of the training program the candidate will be non‑competitively promoted to Plans Examiner II.
Recruitment is open and continuous; scheduling dates vary depending on the time the application is received and reviewed by Human Resources.
Some positions may be confidential or non‑union and are excluded from membership in the union.
About the DepartmentThe Clark County Building Department located at 4701 W. Russell Road, Las Vegas NV 89118 is dedicated to providing construction and development customers with state‑of‑the‑art permit management, plan review, and inspection services for residential and commercial construction. The Department ensures public safety through enforcement of development and construction standards, issuing permits, reviewing plans, and inspecting for compliance with the State of Nevada and adopted Model Codes.

Minimum Requirements- Education and Experience
:
Plans Examiner I equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Building Technology, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, or a related field. Plans Examiner II requires the above plus a minimum of one year of full‑time professional experience in residential, commercial, zoning, and/or industrial plan examination. - Licensing and Certification

Valid Nevada Class C driver’s license at time of appointment. Within one year of hire, the applicant must possess an ICC or other nationally recognized Plans Examiner certificate. - Background Investigation
:
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodic investigations may be conducted thereafter. - Citizenship

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Clark County does not provide H‑1B visa sponsor ships or transfers for any employment positions. - Pre‑Employment Drug Testing
:
Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre‑employment drug examination.
- Research codes, NRS, and County codes; confer with developers, engineers, architects, contractors, property owners, and others to provide information regarding codes, regulations, and procedures.
- Review minor calculations for completeness, code compliance, and accuracy.
- Forward plan packages to other departments and agencies; coordinate the review process to ensure all applicable standards are met.
- Recommend necessary changes to obtain compliance with accessibility, building, electrical, energy, mechanical, plumbing, zoning, subdivision, and other codes; convey this information to plan submitters and suggest alternative solutions.
- Advise building inspectors and others regarding potential field problems.
- Provide customer service at a public counter to answer questions and approve minor plans.
- Maintain accurate records, logs, and files of plans, review status, and work performed.
- Monitor technical developments and legislation related to new construction materials and methods, zoning, and subdivision code changes; recommend procedural or ordinance changes as appropriate.
- Prepare reports, correspondence, and a variety of written materials.
- Contribute to the unit’s efficiency by offering suggestions and actively participating in a work team.
- Use standard office equipment, including a computer; drive a personal or County vehicle to visit work sites and attend meetings.
- Review and examine plans and specifications, and minor structural calculations for residential, commercial, industrial, and amusement and transportation device plans, specifications, and related documents for compliance with building codes and regulations.
- Review and examine plans and specifications, and minor building calculations for residential, commercial, industrial, amusement, and transportation device plans, specifications, and related documents for compliance with zoning codes and regulations.
- Research zoning and subdivision codes, and land use applications.
Mobility to work in a typical office setting, use standard office equipment, drive a motor vehicle to inspect field sites and attend meetings; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
