The Role

The Water Permitting Specialist manages the Nevada Projects’ water rights portfolio and supports all water‑related regulatory processes. This role drives strategy for acquiring, modifying, and maintaining water rights; prepares permit applications; supports hydrologic evaluations; and ensures ongoing compliance with state and federal regulations. Working closely with Environmental, Operations, and Engineering teams, the Specialist ensures water management programs—including groundwater monitoring and dewatering—are technically sound, compliant, and defensible.

The Role

The Water Permitting Specialist manages the Nevada Projects’ water rights portfolio and supports all water‑related regulatory processes. This role drives strategy for acquiring, modifying, and maintaining water rights; prepares permit applications; supports hydrologic evaluations; and ensures ongoing compliance with state and federal regulations. Working closely with Environmental, Operations, and Engineering teams, the Specialist ensures water management programs—including groundwater monitoring and dewatering—are technically sound, compliant, and defensible.



Key Responsibilities

Water Permitting & Regulatory Compliance

  • Develop, modify, and maintain water rights permits with the Nevada Division of Water Resources.
  • Prepare and submit permit applications, amendments, and supporting technical documentation.
  • Interpret permit conditions and communicate requirements to operational teams.
  • Track reporting deadlines, permit obligations, and compliance milestones.
  • Monitor regulatory updates related to water rights, groundwater protection, and discharge standards.
Water Monitoring & Reporting

  • Coordinate groundwater, surface water, and stormwater monitoring programs in line with permit requirements.
  • Review and validate monitoring data for completeness and accuracy.
  • Prepare technical reports, compliance summaries, and regulatory submissions.
  • Support water balance tracking and documentation for operational and project activities.
Agency & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Serve as a point of contact for the Nevada Division of Water Resources, NDEP, and federal land management agencies.
  • Support regulatory inspections, technical discussions, and follow‑up requests.
  • Prepare responses to agency inquiries and requests for additional information.
Risk Management & Technical Support

  • Identify potential water‑related compliance risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Evaluate operational changes that could impact water permits or discharge conditions.
  • Participate in incident investigations related to water management and assist with corrective action tracking.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Environmental, Operations, and Engineering teams to ensure permit requirements align with operational practices.
  • Support capital projects, expansions, and modifications requiring water permit updates.
  • Coordinate with consultants and laboratories providing hydrologic and environmental monitoring support.
Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, Geology, or a related field.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • 3–7 years of experience in environmental compliance, water permitting, or water resource management within mining or industrial operations.
  • Strong familiarity with Nevada water regulatory frameworks preferred.
  • Experience preparing regulatory technical reports and working with groundwater, stormwater, or discharge compliance programs.
  • Water permitting and regulatory compliance expertise.
  • Groundwater and surface water monitoring program management.
  • Strong data analysis and technical reporting skills.
  • Understanding of Nevada water permit requirements and permit condition management.
  • Ability to identify risks and track corrective actions.
  • Familiarity with hydrologic or environmental data systems.
  • Strong technical problem‑solving and judgment.
  • Ability to work independently within regulatory frameworks.
