Plumbing Project Designer 1 – Las Vegas, NV

Plumbing Project Designer 1 will lead design efforts as a project manager or lead designer for low to moderate complexity projects and collaborate with senior staff for larger, high‑complexity projects. Responsibilities include engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of plumbing systems for the vertical building industry. The role requires working within the project budget, training and mentoring junior staff, and collaborating with cross‑functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.

Responsibilities
  • Lead design efforts for plumbing and fire protection systems; use engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations per code requirements and IMEG standards.
  • Interact with clients to understand needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information; build and maintain professional relationships.
  • Support project planning, budgeting, and scheduling; document design decisions and monitor progress as related to percent complete and fee expended.
  • Analyze engineering problems and propose innovative solutions; collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical solutions.
  • Provide in‑process design reviews of plumbing and fire protection system design, calculations, and specifications; implement IMEG quality control processes to ensure designs meet standards, industry norms, and client requirements.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices; contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG.
  • Prioritize safety; identify and mitigate potential safety risks associated with plumbing systems.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including architects and project managers—to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager.
  • Oversee projects through bidding and construction administration.
Required Skills & Abilities
  • Functional expertise in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in producing technical plans and specifications.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills, including principles of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics as they apply to plumbing and fire protection design.
  • Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff.
  • Advanced proficiency in industry‑standard engineering software and tools.
  • Mastery of code calculations for domestic water, waste, and vent systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of specialty plumbing systems (medical gas, laboratory gas, high‑rise, rainwater/greywater) as applicable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly in both oral and written form.
  • Team‑player who works collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and strong problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Building Information Modeling (BIM) software.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent – required.
  • Engineering in Training (EIT) Certification – preferred.
  • ASPE Certified Plumbing Design – preferred.
  • Associate’s degree or certificate in Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Engineering – preferred.
  • Three years of experience minimum in building‑design consulting (four years preferred); OR seven years minimum (eight years preferred) in building‑design consulting or construction industry.

Salary & Benefits

Salary range: $83,000 – $112,000 (adjustable based on location, experience, skills). Additional rewards may include annual bonuses and stock‑ownership options.
