Estimator, Mechanical Engineer
A privately held HVAC sheet‑metal manufacturer based in Southern California, this company produces rectangular, round/spiral, and flat‑oval duct and fittings, along with welded grease duct and specialty components for exhaust and dust‑collection systems. With a multi‑site footprint across the Western U.S. and beyond, the team supports mechanical contractors with quick‑turn stock options and around‑the‑clock deliveries for project work.
Responsibilities- Own the fundamentals of takeoff on ductwork and accessories: read plans/specs, quantify materials & labor, and build clean estimate worksheets.
- Contribute to live bids with senior estimator review; assist in preparing scopes, alternates, and inclusions/exclusions.
- Partner with fabrication, PM, and field to validate production hours and logistics so estimates reflect how work really gets built.
- Use modern tools (Bluebeam + Excel); exposure to leading sheet‑metal estimating platforms – we’ll train.
- Fabrication‑first estimating: how shop standards, production rates, and installation logistics drive cost.
- How big projects move: RFIs, VE options, and bid‑day strategy with GCs/owners.
- Data hygiene & speed: templates and assemblies that make your numbers trusted by operations.
Advance from Estimator I → Estimator II → Senior Estimator, with options to specialize (healthcare/DSA/campus), mentor interns, or pivot into precon or PM.
Qualifications- 0–2 years in construction (internships, shop/field time, design/drafting, or estimating all count) or a related degree/certificate (CM, ME/MEP, drafting, or welding/fab).
- Curiosity about how things are made; reverse‑engineer drawings and like tightening assumptions.
- Beginner proficiency with Bluebeam and Excel; exposure to any MEP/sheet‑metal estimating tool is a plus.
- Clear, concise communication—and you’re not afraid to ask why.
- Competitive pay $20‑25 per hour.
- 100% paid benefits: full package including PTO and 401(k) with 4% match.
