About the Role
The Director, Project Engineering provides strategic and technical leadership for the planning, design, and execution of large‑scale mining projects. This role oversees engineering activities across multiple sites and ensures projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to high technical standards. Working closely with Nevada Projects leadership, EPCM partners, and operational teams, the Director ensures engineering outcomes align with business priorities and long‑term project success.
Key Responsibilities
Project & Engineering Leadership
* Lead capital projects from early concept through feasibility, design, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
* Oversee internal engineering teams and manage EPCM contractors, consultants, and vendors to ensure safe, high‑quality, and on‑budget delivery.
* Identify and mitigate technical and project risks, driving proactive problem‑solving and clear stakeholder communication.
* Integrate engineering solutions with project controls, procurement, and construction to support seamless project execution.
Strategic Planning & Governance
* Manage CAPEX planning, budgeting, and reporting with transparency and accountability.
* Drive innovation and continuous improvement in engineering practices, project delivery methods, and governance processes.
* Support permitting, community relations, and corporate functions to ensure alignment with broader project and organizational goals.
* Serve as a key member of the Nevada Projects leadership team, contributing to strategic decision‑making and cross‑functional collaboration.
Compliance & Standards
* Ensure all engineering and project activities comply with MSHA, environmental regulations, and federal, state, and local requirements.
* Champion and uphold company values, safety standards, and internal compliance obligations.
People Leadership
* Provide mentorship and technical guidance to engineering and project staff.
* Foster a culture of safety, accountability, professional growth, and high performance.
* Lead large, multi‑disciplinary teams effectively in a fast‑paced, complex project environment.
Requirements
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, Mining Engineering, or related discipline (required).
* Master's degree in Engineering, Project Management, or Business (MBA) preferred.
* Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng.) registration or eligibility preferred.
* 10-15 years of progressive engineering and project management experience in mining, including 5+ years in a senior leadership role.
* Strong background in mining processes, infrastructure design, and plant operations.
* Experience managing large teams and working within an Owners Team environment with EPCM partners.
* Proven record of delivering large‑scale mining or heavy industrial projects.
* Knowledge of mining regulatory frameworks and permitting processes.
* Understanding of mineral processing, tailings, and supporting mine infrastructure.
* Expertise in cost estimation, scheduling, progress tracking, and change management for major capital projects.
* Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence, motivate, and guide teams.
