Position: COMPUTER AIDED MASS APPRAISAL MODELER

Position Overview

The Clark County Assessor's Office is seeking qualified candidates for the Computer Aided Mass Appraisal Modeler position. This role develops, tests, and verifies complex statistical models used annually to assist in establishing taxable values in Clark County. The ideal candidate should have education and experience in specification and calibration of models, experience using current modeling software, and a strong knowledge of advanced statistical measures.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field, and four (4) years of full‑time professional experience in assessment, statistics, or a directly related field. Professional experience should provide the skills and knowledge necessary to perform all job functions at this level; this experience may substitute for the education on a year‑for‑year basis up to two (2) years.

Must possess computer skills to develop and administer assessment models. Experience in a public agency setting and project or programmatic lead experience is desirable.

Licensing and Certification

Positions may require possession of a valid Nevada Class C driver’s license at time of appointment.

Background Investigation

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodic post‑employment background investigations may be conducted.

Citizenship

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsor ships or transfers for any employment positions.

Pre‑Employment Drug Testing

Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre‑employment drug examination.

Responsibilities
  • Plans, organizes and completes modeling for assessment purposes, utilizing SPSS and/or other statistical applications.
  • Performs complex computer modeling and works in a CAMA system, requiring advanced level computer skills.
  • Develops, tests, implements, and verifies mass appraisal models for all property types.
  • Understands real estate market trends to determine overall impact on assessments within Clark County.
  • Understands principles, practices and theories used in property appraisal and valuation.
  • Coordinates and performs research, administrative and technical activities necessary to achieve accurate modeling results.
  • Makes recommendations regarding policy and procedure development and implementation associated with assessment modeling.
  • Reviews and verifies data, model use and prepares adjustments to properties in accordance with NRS 361 and NAC 361.
  • Drives a motor vehicle to attend meetings and inspect property sites.
  • Performs site visits as part of the review and verification process.
  • Determines analytical techniques and data gathering processes to obtain the required information for an accurate analysis.

  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit’s service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a team.
  • May be assigned to coordinate activities for specific projects and/or programs.
  • Conducts various complex research studies, prepares reports and makes recommendations.
  • Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of work.
  • Attends meetings and other departmental functions.
Physical Requirements

Mobility to work in a typical office setting, use standard office equipment and drive a motor vehicle to attend meetings and visit various job sites; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
