Job SummaryThe Aircraft Mechanic III-Electro-Environmental will primarily perform all scheduled and unscheduled aircraft and equipment electro/environmental maintenance, both on and off equipment, on assigned aircraft and equipment in accordance with the Performance Work Statement (PWS), M1 policy, DAFI 21-101 (and supplements), as well as industry standards.
- Perform aircraft and equipment maintenance on assigned MDS aircraft in a highly cross-utilization/trained environment.
- Perform at a high level of competency in repair and reclamation, egress, avionics, APG, wheel & tire, sheet metal, composite repair, propulsion, fuels, AGE, armament, munitions, non‑destructive inspection (NDI), and pneumatics.
- Troubleshoot and repair complex problems.
- Prioritize and direct the activities of other technicians.
- Maintain aircraft and support equipment records in accordance with Air Force procedures, utilizing Air Force Information Systems and forms as required.
- Perform transient aircraft support, CDDAR team member, phase dock, QA augmentation, and other duties as necessary.
- Maintain, repair, and modify aircraft structures, structural components, and engines of complex to extreme difficulty.
- Maintain and repair aircraft components including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components.
- Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to determine equipment malfunctions.
- Apply technical expertise in restoring equipment condition and operation.
- Use professional technical expertise to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints or manufacturer’s manuals.
- Make entries in aircraft logs and records as required.
- Provide guidance and technical expertise to lower‑level technicians throughout aircraft modifications and/or maintenance efforts.
- Assist other personnel and work centers as directed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of 10 years performing aircraft electro/environmental maintenance in a military environment, with at least three (3) years of F-117A experience preferred; attainment of an Air Force 7 level (or equivalent) required.
- Working knowledge of principles applying to aircraft systems, concepts, and application of maintenance directives, data reporting, and use of technical data.
- Knowledge of Air Force supply and efficiency reporting procedures.
- Knowledge of proper handling, use, and disposal of hazardous waste and materials.
- Comprehensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures and replacement of components.
- Ability to determine functionality of non‑complex electrical systems; detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes, and shears.
- Experience and ability to provide technical support to structural/mechanical engineers and customers.
- Excellent organizational skills in prioritizing workload to meet aircraft delivery schedule.
- Ability to obtain and maintain the security clearance level mandated by the government customer.
- Maintain qualifications contained on the Special Certification Roster (SCR) as directed.
- Current valid U.S. Driver’s License.
- Speak, read, write, and understand English.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Reliability, self‑motivation, and ability to deal with stressful situations and timelines while maintaining a professional and non‑confrontational attitude.
- Position requires complying with unique commuting/travel requirements.
- Work will be in aircraft hangars and outside on aircraft ramps within close proximity to running equipment and aircraft.
- Must work days, nights, weekends, or overtime shifts as required.
- May work outdoors in hot or cold weather.
- May be exposed to contaminants.
- May be exposed to hazardous conditions such as standing on scaffolding or climbing ladders.
- Will be exposed to loud and persistent noise.
- Require utilization of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety toe footwear, safety glasses, etc.
