About the Role
JDS Energy & Mining is seeking an experienced and motivated Process Plant Commissioning Superintendent to support the safe and successful commissioning, startup, and ramp-up of mineral processing facilities. This is a site-based, camp, fly-in/fly-out (FIFO) role responsible for leading commissioning activities across complex process plants. This role provides field leadership and technical oversight throughout pre-commissioning, commissioning, startup, and performance testing phases.
The Process Plant Commissioning Superintendent acts as a key link between construction, engineering, operations, vendors, and project stakeholders to ensure safe, structured, and efficient transition from construction to operations.

- Lead and supervise commissioning, startup, and operational readiness activities on site
- Develop and execute commissioning plans, procedures, schedules, and work packages
- Coordinate pre-commissioning, commissioning, startup, and performance testing activities
- Manage commissioning personnel, contractors, vendors, and specialist consultants
- Ensure systems are commissioned safely and in accordance with design intent
- Coordinate system handovers between construction, commissioning, and operations teams
- Verify mechanical completion and readiness for commissioning activities
- Lead commissioning risk assessments, hazard reviews, and safety planning initiatives
- Manage lockout/tagout, permit-to-work, and energy isolation requirements during commissioning
- Monitor commissioning progress and provide reporting on schedule, risks, and performance
- Support punch list management, deficiency resolution, and system turnover activities
- Coordinate vendor representatives and OEM specialists during equipment startup
- Support operator training and operational readiness programs
- Facilitate commissioning meetings and multidisciplinary coordination
- Review engineering documentation including process flow diagrams, P&IDs, and operating procedures
- Ensure commissioning documentation is completed and maintained accurately
- Participate in plant performance testing and achievement of design criteria
- Support plant optimization and ramp-up activities following startup
- Ensure compliance with company standards, project specifications, and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
- Degree in Metallurgical, Chemical, Process, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
- 10+ years of experience in mining, mineral processing, or heavy industrial operations
- Minimum 5+ years leading commissioning, startup, or operational readiness programs
- Experience in a Superintendent, Commissioning Manager, Startup Lead, or Senior Operations role
- Proven experience commissioning large-scale process plants
- Crushing, conveying, grinding, flotation, leaching, filtration, thickening, and tailings systems
- Commissioning methodologies and best practices
- Operational readiness and turnover processes
- Mechanical completion and systemization
- Process control and automation systems
- Plant startup, ramp-up, and performance testing
- Experience on greenfield and brownfield mining projects
- Familiarity with commissioning management systems and turnover software (asset)
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering, construction, and operations teams
- Valid driver's license and ability to work in a remote FIFO environment
